which one G7/G9, FZ8/FZ18, 650 IS
Hello there,.

I understand that this might be a repeating question but I would appreciate an extra opinion. I would like a camera with the controls that these offer (G7/G9, FZ8/FZ18, 650 IS) as I opt to spent more time in photography. Things that I need to take onto account are:.

Many of my pictures are going to be taken in mountains (hiking and climbing), so tele is important as well as compactness, lightweight and well build to withstand the unavoidable mishandling..

I like the build of the G7/G9 but from the reports I realize that FZ18 might be a better contester albeit a bit larger. Is there another reason other than the build, the ISO control why G7 would be better than A650 IS?.

Some of my pictures will be printed large but not poster size. Many will be with low light conditions and many with snow reflections.Under the conditions ease in handling is importand..

I don't particularly have a need for Raw for the time being as there is going to be little post-processing of my pictures. Price-wise I can afford up to US $500 so that alone can't exclude any of those options..

Has any of you any experience of how these cameras will handle at low temperatures close to zero celcius or even minus? (not just their batteries, I actually mean if they will function according to their secs or at all...).

Do you have any other suggestions? I have been through most of the discussions in the forums here and I am getting a bit confused as I am not sure if the differences among those cameras will really affect my photographs under the above-mentioned conditions..

Please excuse my bad EnglishReally appreciate any suggestions!..

I don't know about the others but the G7 is a great little cam. It goes with us into the mountains every time my buddies and I go hiking. It's my friends cam, but I love it so much I always end up playing with it too. It has been with us through thick and thin. Everywhere from 100+ degrees Fahrenheit to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, and it hasn't let us down yet!.

As I said this is my friends G7, go to the link below to see photos..

Thank you very much for your response USACanuck. I do believe that size-wise the G7/G9 or the 650 IS are better than the FZ8/FZ18..

Any one other suggestions? Anyone?..

Flipscreens are doubly useful - you can stow them away with the screen safe from getting scratched, which is even more of a benefit than the advantages of framing shots from crazy angles. Big brownie points to the 650 ..

Hello Sanfranc.

There are no reports for the two cameras G9, 650 IS that I have found. My question was if any of the above cameras would have characteristics that would help me use them while mountaineering, amongst other things..

Keeping this in mind one could ask the question for the G7, FZ18/FZ8, and 640IS or 710IS instead..

As I am very unexperienced in the whole camera buying scene I would think that the replacing models would at least match the quality of the replaced and thus my questions for the G9 and 650Is..

Do you think you can be of any help and give any suggestions for these or other cameras? I understand that most people wait until the reviews come out but I am sure that the obvious pro's and cons of size and weight, well are obvious. I haven't thought though the idea given before of the protection of the screen when this is articulated which is of great value for the case..

Thanks a lot!..
