From your other posts, it appears you're interested in the super zoom bridge cameras. Pick the one that feels best in your hand then shoot it at the store. If you like the images, buy it..

Today's "best" may be better than tomorrow's "best" in features but not in megapixels (or is it the other way around these days). If I was in the market for yet another point and shoot and I wanted to slip it in my pocket I'd buy a Leica D-Lux 3. If I wanted tgo max out sensor size I'd see If I could find a "new" Sony R-1 because of it's sensor size..

Wow! I have a lot to learn. Would have never considered Leika. Though that among the best p&s cameras, Canon woud dominate.Obviously not the case. Need to do more homework.Very thankfull for your advise.....

Some of the Canons are very good, the A series and the Sd series but also look at the Fuji F20/31fd if low light is a concern. The Fujis are among the best at low and indoor natural light capture..

Canons are quite good and depending on what you're looking for a Canon might be the best (S3 or S5 for example). The Leica is similar to it's Panasonic cousin but different because of an additional warranty and a firmware that results in a different color balance (not necessarily better but different). So if you've considered the Panasonic you've considered the Leica. If you want manual control options and RAW shooting options it has some true value..

There's no one right answer to your question (if I needed outstanding low light performance in a P&S I'd buy the Fuji Fd31 as suggested by the poster above me)..

There are, however, plenty of wrong ones if you don't do some "field" work. You can read online forums and ask other people's opinions forever but sometimes you've actually got to put the product in your hands..

What is a "P&S" as you used it?.

Hmmm....

If by "P&S" you meant an automatic camera that does ALL the thinking, well, ALL cameras are "point and shoot" cameras! They all have fully automatic modes. The ultimate "P&S" camera (taken to mean "automatic") is probably the Olympus E510..

If you meant "small", then a better description would have been "compact". So a question for you: "How big is too big for your use?".

Someone suggested you try to find an R1, which is a "bridge" camera. It's a great camera, but quite large. I like the size (I have big hands)..

Why leica .. now all leica is made by panasonic( I think that ) .. any way all lecia cameras have another version for panasonic and the difference is only the brand name and that the panasonic always alot cheaper ( as both are the same ) ...

Back to topic if you want good compact camera with high zoom and semi manual controls then go for the tz3 for sure .. it's the best .. small + high end zoom + 28mm wide angle +3 inch bright and very good screen + and many many features..

You are absolutely right (except for the M8) the cameras are made by Panasonic and the "Leica" lenses are made by Panasonic under Leica guidelines. The difference besides price is firmware and WARRANTY. I own two Panasonic cameras (TZ1 and older LC20 that I picked up for $72 new at the Ritz on Key West (because it's a great 2mp camera for the price and what it gets used for) and enjoy them for their specific advantages. But I happen to like the color rendition of the D-Lux 3 if I were buying a point and shoot of that type, that's what I'd go for..
