Where to learn DSLR basics
What is the best place (preferably a website) to learn about DSLRs? I just purchased my first one, which is a Canon 350D. I don't have a clue what any of the settings/features mean or when to use them. I have a friend's wedding in 3 weeks & would at least like to know what way to set the camera for pics of the wedding, if possible..

I have tried looking around this site. It explains what the features are, but I find it a little confusing for someone who is brand new to this, and also I don't know where to start! Does anyone know of a simple learning guide?.

Thanks!..

I don't know how simple you want to get. Canon has an online site for the XT/350D with various lessons both on DSLR photography in general and the XT/350D in particular. You can find it at:http://images.photoworkshop.com/rebelxtlessons/interface.html.

Canon also has an even more basic introductory site at:http://web.canon.jp/imaging/enjoydslr/..

The Bill Huber (Olympus Talk) tutorial seems easy to understand for a DSLR beginner like me - one of the best I've seen online that explains in simple fashion how everything's related. Problem is, I can't really see the images because they're kinda small on my screen. How come the largest available image is at "medium" only?..

Go to a reputable bookshop in your city and browse the "digital photography" section. There you should find a copy of (no offence) "Digital SLRs for Dummies". The price is quite reasonable (here, A$~50-00). Three weeks will give you a pretty steep learning curve!.

I have it, and it's very good for beginners. Good luck!..

Can offer advice. The thumbnails can be shown in the original size on this end. I'll try this to see if this helps. Sometimes the hosting site "hiccups" and causes problems, so have tried copying them to another site. Let us know if you still cannot see larger size.http://www.Ncogneto.BillHTutorial.PhotoShare.co.nzJoe B..

I found this site a while ago but I think it's what you are looking for.

It's slanted to Canon but I think generic enough for all DSLR. Everytime I read it I think "Oh yea, I remember that now". If I could only memorize the information there I think I could avoid most of my bad shots..

Misc equip : Canon 610, Canon 400D, Canon 10D (about to sell), EF 50mm f/1.8 II, EF 85mm f/1.8 USM..

Okay, the largest images on PBase work now. I think it was just the browser I was using yesterday - guess I got to update it..

Those work nice too, but I'll look through the PBase site since it has accompanying text. Thanks for everything, Joe. I really appreciate it...

Since it seems to be functioning now, I will remove the shots from my site so as not to add to the confusion..

It is my pleasure to assist in any way that I can. I had an abundance of help/assistance/guidance when I began from some very patient members (still do as a matter of fact) and feel that's what these forums are mainly about.Joe B..
