What to buy...Lenses vs. Camera? D80 vs. 30D vs. 10D
I am sure this is a tired question by now, but I thought I'd try..

I am finally giving up my old Canon AE1 and stepping into the world of digital photography. I have about 1000 to spend right now, and I have a few questions..

I am big on a nice viewfinder and have settled on the Canon 30D, Pentax 10D and the Nikon 80D. Obviously I cant get all three, so who has experience enough to tell me which has the best viewfinder?.

Also, I am aware that glass makes a huge difference. I will be shooting landscapes (I live near the NC mountains), birds and bugs, and my brother who is a jazz musician(low light indoors). Would I be better of getting a Canon XT and opting for higher grade lenses?.

I can get the Canon XT for $200, the 30D for 450, the 10D for 550, and the 80D for 450 from BestPriceCameras.com (anyone know if this site is legit? The cameras are so cheap!)...

I would definitely opt for better glass..

Thanks for the links guys. Perhaps I need to slow down a bit before I buy and do some proper research. Speaking of which, I did a little research and found that BestPriceCameras.Com is a SCAM! Beware!.

I am leaning towards an Cannon XT and a nice zoom lens for now, although I really like the Pentax. Im taking a trip to Bangkok and want to be prepared..

Thanks for the help...

If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn you might want to buy..

Any place that will _actually_ sell you a new, unstripped Canon EOS 30D or Nikon D80 body will want a lot more than $450 for it. Try close to $900 for the D80 and maybe $1000+ (guess) for the 30D...

Yeah, like I said in my last post, I did some research and that website (BestPriceCameras.com) is a SCAM..

How much you want for the bridge?.

So, considering I have given myself 1000 to spend, I think I may try my luck with Ebay. Im a pro at finding good deals. Then I will probably but my lenses from a local store...

If you like looking down a dark tunnel then the XT is for you..

The 30D is not nearly as nice as the K10 or D80. The K10 might be a little better than the D80, not sure if the D80 is the same as the D200, which is better than the K10..

The K10 is a lot of camera for the money if you can live with it's few quirks..

Lots of scammers on Ebay as well. The general consensus is that B&H, Adorama, and Amazon are the best retailers. Ritz Camera is perfectly legit, though they may have higher prices. Buydig is safe, has low prices, but less selection..

At least 90% of the online stores are shady (IMHO)...

I just jumped in with the XTi, and the Sigma 17-70 from us1photo.com.

Everything came out to about your price range, and they were easy to work with and great shipping..

Hope you get kitted out soon!..
