What cheap priced camera to get for my needs?
Alright I am looking for a new digital camera, for around $200 preferrably, but more if it's really worth it!.

Here are my NEEDS:.

1) fast picture taking, as soon as I press button, or as quick as possible.

2) very compact, pocket size.

3) rechargeable batteries option.

4) good quality pictures with good enough zoom for scenery pictures.

5) manual modes.

6) image stabilization or similar feature so pictures won't be so blurry.

Here are my WANTS, but not necessarily needed:.

1) Foveon X3?.

2) High ISO without much grain.

3) ISO 50, or 80-100.

4) Long exposures.

5) fast shutter speed (not sure what because I'm uninformed).

6) ability to change shutter/aperture, and change ISO sensitivity.

7) no microdrive media.

8) no shutter lag or very minimum.

9) fast memory card capability (not sure what card camera to choose).

10) higher effective pixels (read from a guide, not sure what it means, but it sounds good).

11) movies at 640x480 at 30 FPS with sound and ability to record all through memory space.

So that's what I've researched so far and want for my camera. Is there a camera that exists for around $200 with at least my NEEDS and some WANTS? Or do I have to spend more?.

How is the Canon A630 compared to what I need? I heard the colors weren't that good on it...

Perhaps forget this..

The A630 meets your needs and wants pretty much yes. I wonder where you read the colours weren't good? It's not true..

The other obvious cameras for you are Canon A570IS, Fuji F31fd..

There is a review on this website that mentions the A630 has color problems and he compared it to the D40 (but D40 is in another league so...)..

The A570IS sounds good, but is there anything with more zoom for that low of a price (~$200)?.

The Fuji F31fd has recharcheagle lion...any similar Fuji with nihm batteries?..

I saw that. It's just one guy who has his ideas about colour. You should disregard that comment. I doubt you'll find it anywhere else..

If you shop around you may get the Panasonic TZ2 for that sort of money, or even the TZ3. Much more zoom, but no manual controls and they don't quite match your needs. Check them out though..

No. You want a pocket camera... most of them use li-ion batteries. Nimh batteries are great in some ways, but actually many people (like me) prefer lithium batteries because they last longer and keep their charge when you're not using the camera. The thing is to pick up a cheap spare from somewhere like Sterlingtek and you never have to think about batteries again..

Don't worry too much about this: NiMH are as good as lithum in se provided you compare like with like, meaning on't compare a 200 Ah NiMH with a 2,000 lithium and expect the same performance. I've sets of AA's with identical performance to lithiums for _taking photographs_..

And as for holding a charge, NiMH are not designed for photographers who take a year to use a roll of film. Behave normally and there's no real difference. Both store electricity and power cameras and both need recharging when empty. Lithiums have advantages when not using the camera for half a year or more... But, otoh, a set of 4 AA's aor two AA's is a lot cheaper than a lithium. Last time I looked a set of 4 AA's was about 7 or 8 and the Lithium I'm thinking of was nearer 70 (both had the same output - which is why they stuck in my mind but were for two different cameras I owned)..

Regards, David..

I don't think you should worry too much what type of batteries a camera uses..

Lithium-ion batteries are not as expensive as suggested though, unles you buy the camera maker's own brand. I have several generic batteries for different cameras and most have cost me under $15 plus a small amount of shipping to the UK. They work just as well as the original ones in my experience..

Ok, so out of these two: (Canon A570IS, Fuji F31fd).

Which one is the better for my needs and some wants?.

Are there any other cameras you all recommend?..
