I want to get my first camera...i already posted asking somethinglike this but maybe I was looking at model to expensive for myneeds....i just want a compact point and shot camera to use duringthis summer....any ideas?? budget 200-250$ ....btw I would preferit with Lithium battery ....Thanks.
At a certain level, it hardly matters because all small cameras are roughly the same. So just get any Canon/Sony/Panasonic/Fuji/Casio/Nikon you like the look of..

Panasonic FX12 (7MP, 3x zoom with Image-stabilization)) or FX10 (same but 6MP) are good choices and cheapest cameras with image-stabilization and metal body. Both are less than an inch thick and produce good results.First choice - FX12..

Unless you have specific known requirements, go with a "Highly Recommended" model from this site ... or go to the "conclusion page" and read the concise list of pros/cons to see if anything jumps out at you. Pick a few then shop by price. I personally prefer the compacts Canon has been making lately for what I consider a nice set of compromises ... they offer the most models with an optical viewfinder which is handy for framing. I'd look for image stabilization since it's pretty common now..

I your price range there are many good cameras. One that you might want to consider is the Kodak Z612. It is a "super-zoom" class camera with a good 12x zoom lens with image stabilization. It has many scene modes, aperture and shutter priority exposure modes and full manual controls..
More likely to your interest is how it well it works in it's normal "Auto" mode. The auto-exposure, auto-focus, auto white balance and auto-flash produce consistantly good results under a wide variety of conditions..
My wife picks mine up, which I leave in auto-mode, turns it on and takes pictures. When we review the pictures she reviews the camera as follows: "I pick up the camera and it feels right in my hands. I take the pictures I want and they look like I want when I'm done." She has never given that review to any other P&S camera, film or digital...
SD700 is cheap, sturdy, small, feels good and has stabilization. 4x lens and your feet will work for most pictures. Good flash for small camera. More than enough pixels for P&S heck more would cause noise. I love mine. Get one before it's gone...
