I would gues to use the camera LCD as a slide show viewer..
To the OP - You should have no problem doing that using cut and paste or drag and drop. It would be better to do this from a card reader rather than the camera USB or you will drain the battery (writing to the card will be alot slower than reading from it..
If I am right in asuming that you want to upload to view I think you will have to use a folder name the camera understands. It will probably be best to keep a separate card as a viewing card to vaoid confusion..

Buy a USB memory card reader, then.
Remove the memory card from your cameraInsert it into the card readerInsert the card reader into your PC USB portWait for Windows to detect the new device, and install the drivers.
Open Windows explorer and navigate to your pictures on your memory card (Drive E ?)Copy these pictures onto your "C" driveDo whatever else you do to organize and archive these picturesRemove the memory card from the readerInsert the memory card back into your cameraUsing your camera's menu's, FORMAT the memory cardTake picturesRepeat until deadWarm regards,DOF..
I want to do this because I do not print my pictures from home. I do not yet have a printer and so have to take my emory card to Jessops etc. I have tried to copy and paste the images but they will not go into the camera folder in "MyComputer" when it is connected. Why does the Ixus 800 software have the facility to upload, but the EOS does not?..

It may be that the new camera's firmware is specifically configured to PREVENT overwriting anything in the camera-generated folder.... This might be in order to preserve your precious originals. If that is the case, your other camera which did permit it, could be considered LESS thoughtfully programmed... (??).
Be that as it may.....
You should be able to write to the card, and therefore use it as a means to carry edited picture files to a print house, by simply generating a NEW folder in the root directory and naming it something sensible like "Jssps print", say..
This file folder can then remain on the card without interfering with the camera's operation in any way.....
... and yet give you a specific location for file storage which is *shielded* from the camera's file management operations..
I think this should work.. certainly worth a try. .
Alternatively.. write a CD and take that to Jessops. The cost is low, and your images get an extra level of back-up.Regards,Baz..
What on earth has this babble got to do with the question asked by the OP..

Right now I understand..
I agree with Barrie's comments. Do not use the Canon software. Just use Windows Explorer and cut and past the photos to a new folder. You will have no difficulties doing that via a card reader. If you have difficulties doing that using the camera you will need to change the camera USB settings..
It would be better still to use a separate card or copy to a CD..

Confirm you are finding the photos in My Computer and copying them before the paste into the Camera. Your camera is PTP and shouldnt have any problem with that. No reason to involve software..
An alternative is to find your photos in My Computer. Highlight all the ones you want on the card. Right click on one of the highlighted files > Send To > Removable Disk or whatever your camera shows as. Most people have no problem getting photos in the root directory printed, and that is where Send To will put them..
Windows Explorer is the Windows file system. It is much better for that sort of thing than My Computer..
There should be no need to purchase a card reader for that purpose unless you want it for other things. Just for grins I downloaded a program from the internet directly into my camera. I unzipped it in the camera and installed the program onto the computer from the camera. A PTP camera works just like any other drive...
