Try using the Format option in the camera menus..
If that works, then every so often, do a Format instead of a Delete All...

I've got an EX-S770 that I love, and I'm trying to avoid a problem Ihad with my old camera, whereby over time the capacity on my memorycard (1Gb) would decrease till I could only store 1 image on it. I'vebeen told this is due to using the "delete" feature in the camera, asopposed to erasing them via an external source (PC, card reader, etc). Can anyone tell me the best way to avoid this gradual degradingmemory problem?.
I have NEVER heard of that problem... and cannot think why it should happen..
However, when I clear my card, I use the "Format" function. This deletes images AND prepares the card for new ones. If you still have your camera manual, the formating operation will be detailed there.Regards,Baz..
Thanks, I'll try that. That seems to work for erasing several images, but what about deleting just one?..

For one image, or any number lower than all those on the card... then "delete' would, indeed, be the correct operation to use. Format CLEARS the card entirely.Regards,Baz..
Sounds like a software problem with your old camera..
Don't suppose you have the camera and one of the affected SD cards handy to try a format on have you?..

Hmmm... I suspect the problem may be all to do with the cards NEVER having BEEN formated in camera... not even when they were new... [??] We are often told that the correct way to optimise the card for file writing operations is to......
1) Format the card as it is first put into service..2) Do so in the camera that is going to be used to take the pictures..
Dunno (shrugs) but maybe a format operation, [carried out in camera and not in computer] will fix the apparent "reducing" card capacity problem of the original poster's original camera and cards..
I hope so. Regards,Baz..
I would hazard a guess that there was a software fault on the old camera which opened a new folder for each new shoot but never deleted the old ones (because it was never re-formatted). Each folder would reserve a minimum space for itself to the point where it filled up the card (or the memory marker for the old folder kept space reserved for the deleted photos) but the empty folders would not show up on a download from the camera.
