proper way to clean lens?
Hi,I was curious if anyone has a link to the best way to clean your lenses..

Spit on it and rub the glass with your finger..

Now I wouldn't actually do that, but today's glass and coatings are a LOT more hardy than some would make it out to be. Shake the dust from a clean microfiber cloth, add a little vapor from your breath, and use a light touch until you see no moisture, oil streaks or dust..

If you love buying lots of extra stuff, then there are specialty fluids and specialty wands and specialty service houses that will try to convince you that if you get an eyelash on the glass, you will ruin your thousand dollar lens forever..

I have used it for years and swear by it. Many, many other people do as well:.

I don't know if I got a duff one when I bought mine, but it dried out in about three uses and turned into an ordinary brush...

What part of it dried out? The sponge tip? I've kept the cap on mine, but I didn't think it would every dry out....

That is weird. Regardless, I swear by them. They work wonders!Tim'Be the change you wish to see in the world.' -Mahatma Gandhihttp://www.flickr.com/photos/timskis6/..

LensPens use a dry carbon compound. They don't contain any fluids that would dry out. To use them, just twist the cap around a bit to refresh the pad. You do want to make sure the pad is free of any contamination before use. Also it's not a bad idea to swap them out every so often but used with some basic care, they work great for general cleanings..

If you've got a heavy grease smear on the lens, using a fluid based cleaner such as 90% or greater isopropyl alcohol etc. will do a better job of breaking it down than water, breath, or a dry type cleaner like the LensPen. Plain moisture will mostly just spread the oil into thinner and thinner layers rather than actually removing it. A dry pad, will also spread the oil around more than anything else. What it does pick up, just winds up contaminating the pad..

Lenspens are great. there hard to find here in vegas. I like to 1st. use my sm. rocket blower on the lens then on the brush itself - before & after useage. after that I use the dry pad if needed. happy snappin'..

I should have stated this in my previous post - this is exactly how I do it too. Get the big stuff off first, then clean with the pad.Tim'Be the change you wish to see in the world.' -Mahatma Gandhihttp://www.flickr.com/photos/timskis6/..

I second this. No need for special cleaners. Breath & cloth...

I have one of those lens pens but I use the "Dust - breathe - wipe" method outlined above Best Regards,.

Several people have recommended the lenspen. In a hot environment like a car in summer, the adhesive may let the pad slide. Try cleaning that adhesive off your lens if you want a challenge. You could give me another one...
