I like pbase. But then again I have not used flickr, but the layout doesn't appeal to me..

Adam,.
I use Pbase. See my site listed below. It is a very basic site for me but many have created much better. You can look through other pbase galleries for ideas. I find it easy to use. Yes, you can have one image appear in more than one gallery, but only charged for storage of 1 image file.ckbBe kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.visit my sites at http://www.photographybychris.netand at http://www.pbase.com/ckb..
I use smugmug because it was I liked layout most.http://www.stan-pustylnik.smugmug.com..
Yep I am a Smugmug man as well, much better that the other as you can make it look just as you want it..
You can also have diffrent themes on diffrent pages as well as diffrent looks.

I just started using pbase. For a newbie to the digital world and sites like these I found it easy and quick to get up and running. Some of the site could be better organized but for the price it's a good deal..

After a little research, I think it is the better deal with smaller cash up front. Unlimited storage and bandwidth, and I've just made my photos geo-linked as well to a yahoo map....kind of fancy, eh?.
As soon as I finish the captions today, I'll post a link to the road trip I took west this summer with my favorite photos..
Thanks,.

How? Pbase help section doesn't seem to have any instructions on how to have one image appear in more than one gallery..
Dennis..
Upload your image to a gallery. Edit that gallery and select the image you wish to copy to another gallery. Select the gallery to copy the image to. See this screen shot http://www.pbase.com/ckb/image/83957715.
Pbase has a free trial for 30 days. See this link http://www.pbase.com/pricing.html Why not try it or what ever site first and see for yourself?ckbBe kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.visit my sites at http://www.photographybychris.netand at http://www.pbase.com/ckb..
Good choice - Flickr is fun, free - other flickr people will view your photos - lots of photo groups with common interests..

I LOVE Pbase, but tired of having to pay for it. Not saying the fee isn't reasonable and justified (although I'd prefer to pay by MB usage since mine is small), but ,y budget is set at "free" right now. Flickr will automatically read and provide exif data if you choose to allow it, the user needs to click a button for "More Info." Pbase certainly is more attractive and gives you more flexibility in design..
So do you want custom or do you want cheap?..
Thanks to your help, I also discovered how to make sub-galleries. Now my site is a whole lot neater..
Many thanks..

I am a noob on this topic as well..
I have set up a trial account with smugmug and though this question is probably better asked at smugmug site, I am wondering about the purchase button..
When someone selects to buy pictures, who is getting the money? smugmug or me? I couldn't see anywhere on the site where it states this info. I am concerned about protecting my rights. Did I give them up when I agreed to post photos there?.
Also I believed that I have followed the proper procedures for embedding a photo in a thread on this site, but all I see when I go the thread is the link to that photo..
Test embed here:.

Am I doing something wrong?.
Thanks for any help.
Dave.....
Hmmm..
I ended up choosing flickr. I just have to embed the URL and the photo shows up..
I would search "smugmug" within the forum and find a fellow user and specifically ask them..
Adam..
Glad I could be of some help. I like your Mexico galleries and see you have made the sub-galleries. Just a tip. For sub galleries you can edit your main gallery, I'll use your Mexico gallery as an example for the main gallery-Go under Edit Gallery of the Mexico Gallery. Then click on Advance in the edit views options. Under linked subgalleries check the subgalleries link to each other.
Have a look at my travel gallery. Click on one of the subgalleries and then see the top for other travel subgalleries listed..
If you check EXIF to display with photos your camera info will show up as well. To make this option work do not save for web when you prep your image for web as it will strip all the EXIF data. Instead save as jpg and reduce the file size. I usually crop my image to the size I want, say 800 pixels on the wide or long size or reduce to 72 dpi as a jpg file. By saving as a jpg, Not save for web, you will retain the data. Also enter a copyright statment for the images..
It takes some time to learn all the stuff you can do with the site. Mine is not very well put together but works for me. Take a look around at the other sites on pbase to get more ideas. I have often asked the other pbase members for help and had much luck..
BTW you have some nice images. Really enjoyed the Mexico gallery. I have not been there. But love New Mexico.ckbBe kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.visit my sites at http://www.photographybychris.netand at http://www.pbase.com/ckb..
I visited your site. You're an impressive photography..
And an impressive person..
Dennis..
I figured out the embed part of smugmug - just had to get to the correct url. There are couple more steps than just clicking on the photo that you want to share..
