online lessons
Hi,.

I am planning on buying my first DSLR camera, but honestly I need to learn a lot more before I spend big $$$ on a camera.I am wondering between Oly E510, Panasonic FZ 50 and maybe Nikon D40 or D80..

I just need to find some online photography classes, giving information on how to use the diffrent types of lenses, the differnse between the ISO's......exposure,underexposure, etc....I am really a beginner..

Can anyone help me with a web site where I can read some more and basically know what I am buying and how to use my camera.Thank you!..

Stan,your pictures are incredible!!!!!!.

Do you use any special like filters before yountake the picture or you kind of touch them up after you take the photo? All of them are just beautiful photos.Thank you for sharing!Svetla..

One more variable that Stan forgot (or didn't want to add) is the sensor/film sensitivity rating. All that he said is true, at constant sensitivisty..

If a photo is correctly exposed at let's say F/8 and 1/100s, increasing the sensitivity will allow you to take the same exposure at a narrower apperture, or at slower shutter speed - but you will have to make the sacrifice of increased grain/noise in the output image...

3d component is ISO (sensitivity) usually from ISO 50 to ISO 3200..

Lower number(50 or 100) - less noisy detail (noise is film-grain like artifact visible at Actual Pixels view) - more light needed for correct exposure.

Higher ISO number - more noise artifacts, but less light needed for exposure..

Svetla, buy photography books or rent them from library. In my opinion it's most rewarding way of learning. You will be 1 by 1 with knowledge source..

Thanks for the compliment. I got completely abscessed by photo-hobby 5+ years ago. Didn't take courses, read books, participate in online photo sharing forums:.

Photography is VERY easy, especially digital. Response is immediate. You can see difference in photo result instantly after making exposure change..

Good luck Svetla.http://www.stan-pustylnik.smugmug.com..

Svetla,.

I'm trying to avoid touching up. Trying to get as good composition, avoid distracting elements, shot best exposure at the spot..

However sometimes touching up is still needed (dust spec on sensor 1-2% horizon tilt near ocean)..

I don't use digital filters, but when needed I use optical filters (Circular Polarizing Filter, Neutral Density Graduated filters) work better for me. Don't worry about filters yet....
