Has anyone dealt with this company and are there other better optionsthat I might consider for extended service plans?.
Search the forums, there are plenty of experiences with Mack..
But the larger question is why do you need an extended warranty? Your camera is an electronic device with few moving parts. Failure is most likely to happen right now, within the manufacturer's warranty period. In addition, many credit card companies extend warranty for another year. And if you are really risk averse, an extended warranty doesn't cover most risks fire, theft, accidental damage, etc..

I agree with NickleBack. I didn't purchase an extended warranty for my XT either. I considered it but googled the company providing it (can't remember if it's the same as the one you mention, so this may not apply to them at all) but I read that it was basically worthless. So I decided against it. Again, you will have a manufacturer warranty for a year I believe. Most of your problems with the camera will probably be from misuse, getting dropped, stolen, damaged, etc.
I would recommend looking into your homeowners or renter's policy to see what htey cover. You can get a rider/separate coverage for just about anything and will cover most likely events: theft, fire, etc. I have coverage on my computers that will cover accidental damage as well as theft. I need to look into getting additional coverage for my cam and lenses once I get more gear. Right now, probably not worth it to me, but I can see after you accumulate thousands and thousands of dollars worth of gear, you want it protected.
I don't know about you, but I used to buy those extended warranties all the time at Circuit City. I never used one of them.Just trying to learn.

You do have a point, I had forgotten about the one year warranty. The Mack warranty is fairly inexpensive though ($67 for the S5). dpreview's search function is down at the moment but, apologies for having only searched for "extended" earlier. I should have gone straight into "mack" which I will do as soon as the service is restored..
Thank you for your comments...

By the time the extended warranty comes into effect, the S5, a $450 camera, will be around $300. How do I know this? Just an educated guess. The predecessor, the S3, is a year older and around $300..

Check if your credit card company automatically offers a one-year extension or double the official warranty. The Kodachromeguy..
