If you've already saved the image, and lost the original, you are basically out of luck. If you have the original, you can use a better noise reduction program. I may be bad mouthing the program you Did use (I'm not familiar with it)..

On the other hand even the Best noise reduction programs can ruin an image if used improperly. I've never ruined an image with Noise Ninja or Noiseware Professional, but if I wanted to I could... .

Hi Dave.

Thanks for the speedy reply I've used Noise professional before but the licence ran out well it was the 30 day trial I saw a critique on noiseware community that it was as good as noiseware professional I downloaded it and used it since it is good but like I say the photo loose it's details I haven't used Ninja perhaps I shall give it a go, oh by the way I always make sure I have the original intact it is a must as a restorer I always keep the original in a safe place..

Please could I ask you if I can see a sample of the photo that you've done using Ninja if it is possible at all..

Many thanks.

Cheers.

There are primarily TWO kinds of noise, and you can safely eliminate one, while not doing to much about the other..

Chroma noise is the main culprit. Random bits of color. The second and less important is Lumininse noise which looks more like film grain. Any program you use must have the ability to deal with them seperately..

Often enough luminense noise does little to harm an image - although it can..

It is difficult for me to provide you with examples, because this supposes that I have images available where I can give you a Before and after..

The examples I post below are poor examples, but they are the only images I have. I am cropping a flower from a landscape image. There is not that much detail avaiblable. This is a 100 percent crop, of an image I expect to delete. Not because the overall image is "bad," but because it doesn't say anything to me..

While poor, I hope it helps. Both images were adjusted for contrast and brightness. Nothing else was done, except for noise removal..

Why the colors differ is beyond me... .

Hair strands and fine detail are usually going to be lost if you let the program do what it thinks. These are both very fine textured things, and are usually interpreted as noise. In these situations, you'd have to do manual profiling, or tweak the noise removal yourself. I'm not sure if noiseware has it, but camera profiling is very helpful...

Hi Chato and Glitched.

Thanks both for your replies much appreciated I shall muck about with the noise reduction and details etc until I get a result I need I have download the trial version of Noise Ninja but for some reason cannot get it to work anyway I am happy with the Noiseware Community I shall sort out the detail hair strands and texture for the clothing as I read somewhere on the net you can actually create hair strand and add texture to clothing with Adobe Photoshop..

Many thanks.

Cheers.

It seems the community version is limited. I think you'd have better results and flexibility with the Standard version. I'm very pleased with what the Pro version, having used Noise Ninja and NeatImage prior to trialing (and registering) Imageomic's product. (I rate NeatImage 2nd to Noiseware in results and ease of use, but possibly I didn't give N.Ninja enough of a workout)..

Or, you could continue to use the community version, but in your editor run it on a copied layer of your image. Then you can mask out where the noise reduction doesn't suit you, to allow the details of the image to show through..

You'll have to ignore the gallery's collection of bad compositions, improper exposures, and amateurish post processing.  .

I've used all the mentioned NR programs for years since they first came out, and they can all do what you want, they just need the right settings. Noiseware is the easiest to use. Try just reducing noise rather than eliminating it, it helps a lot to maintain detail, I usually use 65% noise reduction then tweak everything else...
