I have been researching and trying to decide on which camera to buy. I have looked through the postings and read the reviews but still not sure what I want. I take a variety of shots but am looking for something that will take good action shots especially:.
Thad is easy D80.

Any DSLR can do that (i.e. take action photos). What you have to worry about is reach (i.e. lens choices). As far as DSLR is concerned, first decide about how many MPs you need. Whether image-stabilization is a priority (not helpful for action though).

I am going to add 1 more to you shortlist as I was in the same dilemma for 4 weeks & I have commited to Pentax K10D. Excellent piece of equipment and I went to the stores about 5 times to try both K01D and D80..
I will suggest you try these out in the store for yourself. A lot of camera & lens for the same amount of $....E510 I have not tried (Only E500 from my neighbor).....
ThanksRajeev..
I recently looked at the D80 vs. the E510, and went with the e510. However, if I was shooting more sports and fast action, I'd want the speed of the D80 (5fps) along w/ something like the 70-200 IS f2.0 lens, but the combo will cost twice the price of the e510 2-lens kit..

I.S. is helpful, in avoiding camera shake (which normally happens at tele-end of zoom, or shooting at slow shutter speeds). It won't freeze action. Subject movement is independant of camera movement..

Sometimes you want to show the action, not stop it... then IS works...

If these are your two choices I would reccommend you go pick them up and look through the viewfinder....
