New Camera - Out of these 4
Hello,.

I am looking for a new camera to take with me on my travels later in the year. Hence ideally I would like it to be very compact..

Having had a brief look I quite like the look of:.

Panasonic FX100Panasonic TZ3Sony W200.

Any opinions on which I should buy or a different camera suggestion?.

Thank you...

The TZ3 has a much more versatile lens than the others so is the obvious choice for travel even though it's a bit bigger than the other two. If you don't need the long zoom then perhaps the FX100, which like the TZ3 has a wide-angle lens. The Sony has, I think, an optical viewfinder, which for sunny situations could be useful; otherwise, it's nothing special though not a bad camera..

I would look at any of the Canons - they've got higher ratings in the review section of this site and also the Fuji F31fd. I think they've gotten higher ratings than the ones you've mentioned - check out the reviews and see if it meets your criteria (apart from being compact)deburn..

Most reviews favor Canon over Panasonic. Check them out first...

The flexibility of the extended zoom range that the TZ3 offers, along with it's extremely low geometric distortion, would likely make it my first pick of the ones you list (I have the older TZ1). Another option for travel might be the Pentax W30. Smaller and lighter, it rides in a shirt pocket more comfortably, and it's waterproof and dustproof features allow worry-free picture-taking under adverse conditions (during a downpour at the park, my W20 was capturing interesting images while others were hurriedly hiding their cameras under jackets or putting them back in their cases)...

My opinion is that it depends on which photos you don't want to miss; far away shots that demand a long lens (TZ3) or ambient light dusk, dawn & interiors (Fuji F-series)..

If the photos will be viewed electronically the good resolution of the Fuji will allow quite a bit of enlargement (maybe 10X). On the other hand the TZ3's noise can be moderated with software after the fact...

Among those three, the TZ3 is the most fun camera. The FX100 will give you wide angle and MegaOIS but also Venus. The W200 does not have MegaOIS or wide angle.
