Need a bit of help choosing..
I'm basically camera illiterate.. something I'm going to try and change ASAP. I got a Kodak easyshare about 5 years ago and I was loving taking pictures.. I got some really great ones too. But it got to the point where I had to take many pictures of one thing to get even one good shot because of fuzziness, so I got kind of fed up with it. Recently I've noticed the image stabilization digital cameras with good zoom getting lower in price so I've saved up to get one in the (approx) 300$ range but there are lots to choose from (especially if shopping online).

As for pics I want to take.. well.. I was basically taking pictures of everything I could (nature, flowers, got some decent upclose shots) with a 2mp 3x zoom cam, so I'll probably try and do the same with whatever one I get..

I'm not asking for a breakdown of the features, that would be way too much to ask.. I guess what I was hoping for was some opinions about cameras in that range that are good for taking pictures of everything.. small things and skys would be great bonus. Sorry for being so... stupid about these things. I know I need to learn, but I have the money at the moment to get a camera and usually when I wait, there are almost always bills that come up, and I don't get a chance to use the cash for what I want...

I think Canon cameras have great image quality. Some possibilities, all with iimage stabilization:.

Canon PowerShot SD800 IS - very small, nice wide angleCanon PowerShot S5 IS - larger, much more powerful telephotoCanon PowerShot A570 IS - great value..

If you go to Buying Guide / Features Search and put in.

Price (street): US$ 300 or lessRelease Status: Not discontinued (current or upcoming)Zoom tele (T): 320 mm or moreImage stabilization: Yes.

It comes up with a side-by-side list of 7 cameras and their features. Raise the price level and you'll get more than 10 (so you'll need to do several sub-searches to see them all)...

The S3 is being replaced by the S5. But, there's nothing wrong with the S3 and it's a great deal right now..

The only downsides:It's too big for most pocketsNo true wide angle..

I don't mind about the size.. I just want nice pictures. I'd like to be able to photograph everything (I'm not trying to get poster size, but some 8x10s would be nice) with as little noise, blur, purple fringing and all those scary things as possible...

I purchased the Canon S5 IS for $379 on Amazon after doing quite a bit of research. It's really an amazing piece and sounds like it would fit your needs. Good Luck!..

These are the 2 reviews for the canon s3 and s5.

The S3 got a better review then the S5, that was one of the reasons I was considering it..

I have a chance to get a used Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H1 for 150$. I won't be buying it without one of us shooting some pics and uploading them, to make sure there arent any defects (if he says no, I just won't buy it). I was looking at the review and it said the images are somewhat soft.. does anyone have this camera who has some regular everyday experiance with it that can tell me what they think of it? heres the review.. http://reviews.cnet.com/...-shot-dsc/4505-6501_7-31292841.html?tag=prod.txt.1..
