my compact requirements: can't find the perfect one!!
Hi all,.

Looking for a compact/bridge size at the most, but can't seem to find the perfect one.wants:RAWimage stabilisation6x zoom (round about)28mm wide end minimumaperture/shutter control modes7MPDesirable (is this possible on a compact?):exposure bracketing for potential HDR fun in post processing..

Considering the leica d-lux 3/ panasonic LX 2 - but the zoom could be restricted.the panasonic tz3 seemed perfect, but lacks RAW and shutter speed controls.I think the olympus 550uz ticks most of the boxes - but it's had poor reviews..

Size is not a massive priority - though I am getting it for the days when my DSLR setup is too much to take. Thanks in advance anyone who can chip in..

Thank you, I didn't know that existed. Having used it though, it pretty much narrows the field to the ones i've mentioned!hmmm...http://www.unfused.com..

You can drive yourself into a corner with review reading and pixel peeping..

Instead, take a look at the shots from cameras including the Olympus megazoom that people have been posting on PBase.com and Flikr.com.

It isn't as though you don't know how to help the camera get better results if you also use a DSLR. Convenience of use is the major factor, otherwise use a DSLR all the time..

If you plan to do HDR you and have RAW you don't really need exposure bracketing. The RAW file contains a lot more dynamic range than a JPEG. Also exposure bracketing is multiple exposure - one after another. That means moving objects change position, and camera vibration causes blur when you merge. Single exposure in RAW is your best bet, from which you can generate different JPEGSs to merge ( assuming it's that kind of HDR you mean )..

Also bare in mind you can get add-on mini-lens kits and converters that will widen and lengthen many camera's normal range. These might be a useful alternative to seeking the perfect camera. Wide angle is not so common as standard, so it's a useful way to extend a camera's abilities and increase your choices..

I know Raynox do a range of quite impressive lens that screw into a good range cameras. A simple converter might be adequate for your needs - many people use them..

If being small & light isn't a priority, then it sounds like you're talking about the Fuji S9100 or S600fd. If it is, then small size and light weight will prevent you from getting those other features you mentioned...

I have both the d-lux3 (lx2) and the TZ3. A merger of these two cameras would be fantastic. The zoom range of the TZ and the controls of the d-lux3. The Panny upgrade cycle for the LX2 is typically in July. If you can wait a month you could wait and see what is announced. Otherwise you may want to look at the Ricoh GX100.terryhttp://tbanet.zenfolio.com/..
