Here's a weird idea. Why not read the 2 identical threads of earlier this week? Or just google for pci smart recoveryDon't wait for the Nikon D-whatever, have fun now!http://www.flickr.com/photos/j_wijnands/..
Wijnands, if you didn't notice, this is a forum for beginners questions. This is the last place on earth where more-experienced trolls are welcome to lurk and harass newcomers..
As for Dave, their are a number of file recovery applications that *MAY* be able to find deleted images. Two I've used that have worked fairly well are PC Inspector File Recovery and PC Inspector Smart Recovery:.

Use these to scan your memory card, and if they're still there, hopefully it will turn up the images..
An important thing to remember when something like this happens is to NOT write any other files or data to the memory card (same for erased hard drives). Most of your files are usually still there on the drive, but writing new data will overwrite this, and the data will be lost forever...
I have successfully recovered images from SD, xD as well as CF memory cards for myself as well as friends having problems. More than likely, unless the card suffered a catestrophic failure or was low-level formatted...they are not gone...
Ignore the rude poster and try...http://www.photosrecovery.com/.

Don't worry Dave. Chances are, it just corrupted the FAT (File Allocation Table) and you can get them back OK with the free programs you can download for this purpose..
You'll want to use a card reader if possible..
I'd download Digital Image Recovery (free) using this link, unzip it and run it:.
Make note of the drive letter you see when the card is inserted in a reader (you'll find it under "My Computer"). Then, load this program and select your desired language (English is one of them)..
Give it the drive letter for the card reader, select a folder on your PC to save the recovered images to, leave everything else at default settings, and press Start. Your photos will be saved to the folder you select..
Here's another free utility that works quite well, even with raw files (Nathan mentioned it in a previous post to this thread)..
Another choice is a free open source program called photorec. It's a command line utility (no graphical user interface)..
It works with over 80 different file types now (including most popular image formats). You'll see a download menu choice on the left side of the page..
If you start it from command line, it will automatically save the recovered images to folders on the drive you started the program on (i.e. c: if that's where you run it from). You just select the card when it loads and go from there..
If none of these can see the card, you can probably still get them back OK using photorec with Linux since it can see one as a block device, even if the MBR is corrupted and no partitions are recognized..
If that happens, post a note about it and I can make some suggestions on what to use..
AFter you get your images back (and make sure you can load the full size images OK, as you can't tell from thumbnails), I'd make sure to reformat the card again using the camera's menu choice for format (not Windows) before using it again..
If it won't format, that's fixable, too (it's usually just a corrupted MBR when that happens and there are some free utilities that can fix that, too)..

Try this:.

- it worked for me recently (corrupted xD card) when other recovery programs failed. the camera told me that the card needed formatting; the PC didn't recognise it via a card reader; but this program found ALL the photos in the card..
Good luckMike..

We were on vaca in Fla., my daughter was using her Polaroid i531 witha1.0GB "Digital Media" SD card. She had about 300 pics on the cameraand was viewing them on the camera when she started seeing "fileerror" in a blue box on the pictures. The camera then shut down due tolow battery power. After changing thr batteries and turning thecamera back on,there were only 21 pics left on the SD card (the lastpictures taken). Are the other pics still on the SD card? Is thereany way to access them? Lots of cool memory enhancers gone foreverotherwise...Thanks for any ideas....
I use this program. http://www.lexar.com/dp/tips_lessons/imagerescue.html.
25 years as a freelancer,(news, magazine, wedding photography) camera equip. over the years: Practica MLT, Canon A1, Minolta 9xi, 7xi, Dimage Z1,Fuji 5200,Canon S2,Pentax K100D,Olympus 380(see my Z1 shots athttp://www.photobucket.com ALBUM NAME: buckl the COMMUNITY album was done with the Z1, and most of the photos in the album:Other were w/the Z1)..
Dave,.
I have another idea. Sometimes when I download into a folder on my Mac from my Oly 5050 (my default folder is named DownloadFolder) I will get the same kind of response you appear to be getting, i.e., only a few photos seem to make the trip from the camera to the folder. Then I figured out the problem: if there were already, say, 50 images in that folder and I want to download, say, 53 new ones, only the last 3 make it. I'm guessing that file naming system, which in my case is numerical, assigns both batches identical numbers, thus when the last three are added, since there are no "look-a-likes" (from the software's point of view) it allows those 3 to be added..
My solution is to quickly empty that "DownLoad" folder, putting the contents into more meaningful or descriptive folders, like "CapeCod2007". This means my DownLoad folder will be empty and ready to take the next day's pics..
Hope this helps...
Thanks for all your great input and helpful ideas! Got about 400 pics off the card (more than I thought were there) using Digital Image Recovery (Foto-Erhart) from Jim. Thanks again for everyones help!..
