30D is one of the best camera below $1500. Fast, great high ISO performance, well built.Nikon D80 is also capable camera. (Good IQ, well built, cheaper)..

Yes, the 30D and D80 are both superb cameras, the Nikon D200 is even better but may be out of your budget. Make sure to save plenty for your first lens..

Others to consider are the Pentax K10D, or perhaps a notch below but an interesting camera (which comes with a great Leica lens), the Panasonic L1..

Read reviews here and make sure you handle them all in a store..

Or, instead of the 30D, what about the 400d (Rebel XTi)?.

Before I bought my 400d my initial intention was to buy the 30d, but when I compared them I couldn't see any compelling reasons to buy the 30d. Especially when you consider the price difference, in the UK at any rate..

I was looking at the 400D ( XTI) and the 30D and couldn't come up with a good reason to spend $400 more for the 30D. From what I understand, they have the same sensor. The main advantage of the 30D seems to come down to three things as far as I can see- the 30D has a faster continuous shooting mode: 5fps vs 3fps, a brighter view finder, and heavier construction. The faster continuous shooting would be nice to have but for me not worth the extra $$. The brighter viewfinder didn't seem that big a deal when I compared them side by side in the store. The stronger build quality certainly makes the camera more rugid, but it also makes it heavier and bulkier.



So far I'm extremely happy with my XTi. It was the perfect upgrade from my Fuji S9000.

Well I have been checking out various web sites that offer camera packages such as the camera boy only with a couple of canon lenses and other items. I am just not sure about it all. I did find a pacakge that included the body, 2 lenses one I believe was an 85 mm and the other was a 300 mm, 1gb card, tripod, carrying case and a few other little things for $950.00....too good to be true??????..
