round-here.net

know features I want... not sure which camera best does/has them
So, LOTS of reading here and the web (too much actually that now I am confused)..

Here is what I MUST have (no certain order):.

1. small form factor and size - smaller the better, must be pocket (compact or ultra compact)2. anti blur (image stabilization)3. 28 mm for wide shots4. face recognition5. great reported battery life.

I have used for a few days and read middle of the road stuff about the Sony dsc-w80 for example, but money is NO object and wonder what better meets these needs as I was going to buy that, but then I made the mistake of researching other options... now not so sure. use will be pocket travel camera so small and fast is ideal..

Suggestions please... if it does not have those first 4 things (I know 5th is relative), please do not list as it may be too complicated for me . Obviously picture quality is important, but I need those top things, but if I can get a list (maybe of 5) narrowed down, I can review each one..

THANKS!..

You described Canon SD800IS . One of the best ultra-compacts..

Thanks, I added that to the list to review....

Seems like a year old camera, no? so is it dated?.

Any others out there?..

Pity you can't live without face detection. That eliminates the Leica and Panasonic offerings..

'Nice pen, bet you write good stories with it.'..

I just got back from Japan - used the sony w80 for 2 weeks with face detection and found it to be a useful feature and it seemed to work when I look at the photos..

So, it is on my list as a keeper features. However, IS is the bomb and really worked, so it is even more of a must...

I just read that the SD800 IS does not have a battery meter, that kinda sucks...

I think you should use "Features search" on this site..

Edvinas..

Awesome.. thanks. I am new to the site and have just been reading reviews and the forums and did not discover that tool..

Update: I do see it does not have Face Recognition nor does it list all the cameras seen on the site in the actual results ..

Always check the "best before" tag when you buy a camera, you never know if it got stale or worse..

Also, why do you NEED face detection ? Are you buying the camera for a kid ?

"need'... well, as I said, I like the feature, saw it worked, when taking picts of people the face is pretty key, so added it as important to me. heck, I do not 'need' anything... but I find it a valuable tool that worked...

Maybe the Ricoh Caplio R6 is an option it seems using that feature search.. thoughts?..

More PP, no OVF (OVF further saves battery power in SD800IS), poorer high ISO performance..

Frankly, could care less about an OVF... it is a digital camera with an LCD, I use it as such..

ISO poor performance at high settings seems on par for small compact digitals. CNET even says about the cannon "The bad: extremely noisy photos at ISO 1,600.".

Do not know what 'PP' means?..

Look in the news. Panasonic have just announced two compacts that meet your needs...

Thanks for the tip.. I was looking heavy at the Canon DS800 SI - BUT now that I see that DMC-FX55 I might have to wait until September and see what the reviews say.....
