I must be missing something???
I'm considering purchasing the Adobe Lightroom. Been using the 30 day trial and love it so far. Only thing is, I can't seem to upload the galleries?? Most web servers have "pre done" gallery formats? I just want to use the choices in lightroom..

Any help and or links to servers that work nicely with lightroom would be greatly appreciated.Thanks~~..

I'm a novice on this question. I assume that commercial galleries, i.e. sites like Smug mug or Flicker, that allow you to post images, have a preset format to optimise THEIR use of the space..

Maybe I'm wrong about this... .

On the other hand, I have my own netsite, and can upload ANY format that I want. So is your problem loading onto to someone elses net site, or loading onto your OWN netsite?.

You're comparing apples to oranges here. AFAIK Lightroom is mainly used for processing photos, not for setting up galleries.Dirck HarrisBug chaser/Dragonfly hunter...

I'm aware Lightroom is mainly for processing photo's. You must be unaware of all the modules Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 has available?1) Library2) Develope3) Slideshow4) Print5) Web.

In the web module you are able to create a "flash" or "HTML" Gallery..

I just want to share these photo's on the web with friends and family. What use is this module of Lightroom if I'm unable to utilize the Flash format or HTMl format.Just want to upload to a web server..

Does anyone know which server will allow me to do this?.

Thanks~~..

Well you have to clarify what you want..

You will have no problem uploading to just about any server. You WILL have a problem uploading to someone elses space..

In other words, my site consists of me renting space on someone elses server. I lease the space and do what I want with it..

So, are you talking about renting space and making your own site, or using an existing site to post your images. Just like THIS site, everyone has their own rules..

Yes, you are missing something, but we can't (yet) figure out exactly what it is...I read all the replies..

I'm going to make a guess (please tell me if I'm right) that you have never created a gallery on any website..

Let's assume I'm right, while we wait for your reply:.

There are two action buttons in LR's Web module. They are "Export" and "Upload". If you click on "Export", LR will ask you for the name of the folder in which to put the gallery. If you click on "Upload", LR will ask you for your password in order to get access to your webspace..

I'm guessing that you don't have any webspace. Thus, you are confused by the request for a password..

Try reading the Help facility?.

Contents => Web Galleries => Previewing, exporting, and uploading a web photo gallery => Upload a web photo gallery....

"1. In the Output panel, choose a web server preset from the FTP Server pop-up menu..

2. Select Put In Subfolder and type the name of the folder (web output folder) that will contain your web photo gallery. The Output panel displays the server output path (server path with subfolder containing the web gallery files)..

3. Click the Upload button..

4. In the Enter Password dialog box, type the password to access the web server and click Upload.".

Do you know what an "FTP Server" is? Do you have access to one?.

These answers are key to your problem...let us know..

Upload the exported gallery (forget uploading it via lightroom).......

Use FILEZILLA, it's free open source..........

Just upload to your webspace..and of course all the files exported..

Consult your webhost for more info (if you have one)....

Thanks for all your help. No, I have never created a web gallery on any site..

I do have accounts with Photobucket, PB and ImageEvents. Don't have any problem uploading using the FTP application, when it comes to photos. Just can't seem to view any Galleries built from the lightroom module...

Do as Barry suggests. That's what I do too..

The advantage of "exporting" the LR gallery, is that I get a copy on my HD. Then, I use my normal FTP client to upload it to my web host. Do Photobucket, PB and ImageEvents allow you to do what you are wanting to do? Many such sites don't actually offer you unformatted web space. You may need to rent web space from an ISP?.

Lightroom can export your gallery as a website. That means you can't upload it to a photo sharing site. Instead, you need to have your own website where you can put whatever files you want..

Once you have that, you can upload the files generated by Lightroom there, and they'll show up on the web..

Check with your Internet service provider; many of them offer some room on a server to make your home page as a part of your service package; if not, it usually doesn't cost much to rent it..

Thanks everyone for all your help~~.

I use doteasy.com myself, a canadian company in bc. Very happy, they do free hosting (aka you get 1Gb bandwidth per month free), cannot remember storage..but it's more than enough for photos...costs about UK equivalent of 20 ish for 2 years..no monthly fee, and 10 emails..+ usual perks..auto responders, autoredirects etc..

You may be able to get a better deal....have a dig about, I use them and pretty happy..
