You do not need a personal website to post your images, but you do need some web space somewhere from which your uploaded images would be linked here..

Try Google's Picasa Web Album. It's free!.

There are a few requirements for an image to be directly embedded in a post here..

It may be useful to understand that the image is not, actually, embedded in the post. At no point does the image itself pass through dpreview's web servers. Instead, a reference to the image specifically, the URL of the image itself is placed in a post, detected by the forum software, and wrapped in JavaScript. Readers' web browsers then interpret the JavaScript, use the reference to query the image host for the image, and handle it appropriately..

This has a few implications..

First and foremost, you -cannot- upload an image directly to dpreview. There is no attachment. You must supply a valid URL for the image; this, in turn, requires that the image be hosted on a web server, and furthermore that you identify the URL of the image itself. I emphasize: you provide the URL to the /image/, not to the page. Posting a link to the page containing the image and expecting the image to show up is a common mistake, but it's one that should be obviously incorrect if one thinks about how the process works the forum software is NOT programmed to understand all the different online galleries and extract the images for you..

So, if it's not on a web host, you can't embed it in a post..

Second, the image hosting service must not be configured to disallow 'hotlinking'. The owners of some web servers may not appreciate people using their bandwidth to serve images, without first sending them to other pages on their service (which, say, may contain advertising, credits, et al). It also should not require that the viewer be logged in to that image host in order to view it..

Third, the URL must be of a form that the forum software recognizes as an image URL if it does not, it will be treated as an ordinary link, without the JavaScript wrapped around it. In the present incarnation, the forum software -requires- that the URL end in an appropriate extension. ".jpg" works. It is NOT sufficient that the URL contain '.jpg' URLs which end like "foo.jpg&additional_parameter=parameter_value" do NOT get treated as image URLs..

So 1. Find a friendly image hosting service. There are plenty. There are also plenty of threads about favorite image hosts.2. Upload image..

3. Find the URL of the -image itself- on that page a URL with an appropriate extension.4. Simply copy/paste that URL into a post..

If it shows up in 'preview', it should be good to go...

I have photobucket, post multiple pics all the time..

I have IE7, so I simply have the photobucket web site up with my pics open on 1 web page, and the dpreview page I am replying to open on another page. write whatever you wish, go to photobucket(left click once on the pic's url to make it blue, right click select copy), then on the reply page of dpreview position the blinking cursor where you wish, then right click and select paste, the copied url will appear. if you want the link to picture put a semicolon after the url, if you want the actual pic-no semicolon. hit enter, if pc, tomove cursor to next line. for any additional pics simply repeat...
