I'm going to Australia for 45 days and I want to do a lot of photos.I've sell my old camera two weeks ago, so I have to choose the newone....
I have to buy:.
- Camera- Flash- wide angle lens for views- tele lens for animal potraits ( 70-300 or similar would be ok )- prime 50mm for potraits- memories, handgrip, spare batteries, travel backpack, tripod, monopod.
Something less than 2'000 please..
I've checked these cameras:.
- Pentax K10D, 16-45 but I can't find other lenses and flash ( I livein Italy )..
There's a very decent 50-200 on the market now. Perhaps order from Germany?.
- Sony A100, kit with 18-70 and 75-300, flash, my old minolta 50/1.7.But no handgrip and I don't know if it is at the same level of pentaxand nikon..
Image quality? Yes. Why do you need a grip?.
- Nikon D80, 18-135, 70-300VR, flash... A little bit too expensive(1700 + memories, handgrip, spare batteries, travel backpack,tripod, monopod = 2'200 ).
Then take an 18-70 instead and perhaps a Sigma 70-300 APO..
Why do you need a grip?.
Don't wait for the Nikon D-whatever, have fun now!http://www.flickr.com/photos/j_wijnands/..
Is the sigma 70-300 at the same level of the nikon one?.
The 200 is too short for koalas and kangaroos ( and natural photography in general ) I think, the 300 will be a 450 equiv..
The grip is useful for spare batteries and vertical orientation for potraits....
Are you really sure that the A100 is at the same level ( focusing, speed, IQ ) of the K10D?.
Considering the budget, what would you buy ( camera + lenses I need )?.
Do you know a good shop in germany that ships to italy?.

For a combination of weight (important) and cost savings, have you considered a D40 (or D40x) with 18-55 and 55-200VR (or 70-300VR)?.
Plus perhaps a Sigma 10-20 for wideangle if you can afford it..
I can't see why you would want such a big overlap as the 18-135 and 70-300. You do need something wider than 18mm in Australia I would suggest..
If you do go for a Nikon, consider the SB-400 small flash, ideal for travel..

No, but it's decent enough if you can stop down..

Even 300 is awfully short for distant wildlife..
The grip is useful for spare batteries and vertical orientation forpotraits....
But not a necessity if you're on a tight budget. Spare batteries can go in your bag..
Are you really sure that the A100 is at the same level ( focusing, speed, IQ ) of the K10D?.
Take flickr's camera finder and see for yourself..

Hmm... That VR is tempting at eur 500. I think I'd hunt around for a hardly used D50, should cost you around eur 400. Leaves you some room for a general purpose lens, nikon 18-70 for example. Add a tripod and/or monopod. I don't think I'd want to buy two of these..
Alternatively build your kit around a Sigma 50-500 (250143019972 on ebay) add a used D50 or D70 and a used 18-70. Leaves you just enough for a simple tripod, a spare fake battery and a few cards..
Do you know a good shop in germany that ships to italy?.
There's several reliable ones on ebay..

Because it won't be ONLY for Australia... I take photo in events ( miss Italia preselections in small cities ), potraits, views, and a lot more, so the 18-135 and the 70-300 will be useful in both situations ( here and in Australia )....
If you say the A100 will be fine, I can spend a bit more in lenses ( because I've some KM lenses, 50/1.7 , 35-70, 28/2.8, beroflex 70-200 ( or 50-200 I can't remember ) )....
Which lenses do you suggest to buy with the A100?.
In the meantime I'll search some pentax on german ebay..
I think I've decided:.
Sony Alpha 100kit with 18-70 and 75-300.
Tamron 11-18/4,5-5.6.
And my KM 50/1.7..
Looking for tripod, monopod, flash, travel bag...
