HELP! I'm new in photography and have a Fuji FinePix S6000fd (Airline photography)
Hi everyone,.

My name is William, I just turned 25 yesterday and got myself a new camera. I live in Calgary Alberta in beautiful Canada and I am an airport operations manager at the Calgary International Airport..

I've been interested in aviation my entire life and with this newly come opportunity to work for the CAA, I can take pictures of airlines and various shots from the Calgary downtown and the rocky mountains in the background..

I was suggested the Fuji Finepix s6000fd because I've been told that it is a great camera and the sample pictures I saw were very impressive. I got some accessories with such as UV lenses and such and a 0.5X lens as well as a 2X lens. they were all bundled together so I do not know if they are of good quality or not, I bought the entire thing on eBay..

After owning the camera for a few days I am very disappointed because my shots look worse than those of my previous Panasonic Lumix FX03 camera. The images are not sharp whatsoever, they look very watermarked, grainy etc and I was tempted several times to get rid of it, so upset I was. I've had it for about 2 weeks now. My brother tells me I'm the one who doesn't know how to use it which results in my bad pictures... so I'm still holding on....

Ideally I want to be able to get some pictures posted onhttp://www.airliners.net but my pictures don't even come close to the quality of the pictures taken there....

Is there anyone who is willing to help me out and tell what I am doing wrong and how to take good pictures? Even the Auto mode delivers horrible results..

Any feedback would be tremendously appreciated!.

Best regards,.

William..

I don't have an s6000fd (yet), but it was one of the cameras that I was looking at as a first digicam. From what I've read on this site and numerous other sites, to get good pictures out of the s6000fd you have to turn off AUTO mode and use more manuaal controls. Go to the Fujifilm discussion forum on this website and ask about how to do that...

Post a few examples. Airliners.net is very, very strict.Don't wait for the Nikon D-whatever, have fun now!http://www.flickr.com/photos/j_wijnands/..

I agree with Datsa, I have The S6500fd for 8 months now and I got a lot of amazing photos out of it. I never used Auto settings from day one. I use aperture priority and manual mode only. Keep practicing and search for some threads on Fuji forum about the settings for different conditions. Good luck..

The pictures don't look too bad for out-of-the-camera. Did you do any post processing yet? What don't you like about them?.

The camera you have bought is a very fine one and I think you brother might have a good point when he says you will have to learn how to use it properly..

I might even go a little farther than that and point you two these websites about photography in general. Hopefully they will help you get a better general understanding about photgraphy as well as help you some immediate tips and tricks to improve you picturing taking efforts in the way you desire.http://www.luminous-landscape.comhttp://www.cambridgeincolour.comCheck out their tutorials and how to /understanding sections.

Good luck and don't get frustrated ... "no master has fallen out of the skies yet", it takes practice, but the learning curve will be quick..

Thanks for the tips I really do appreciate it. No the picture had no post processing done. Apparently the only Post Processing that is worthwhile is when working with RAW images? Or so I've been told..

Here's another.
