Good macro needed-help!
I need advice on getting either a compact or SLR-like digital camera that is particularly good on Macro shots and which takes ordinary batteries you can buy. The reason for needing good macro is I take a lot of shots of Jewellery for clients for insurance purposes. Thanks. John...

Not SLR-llike, but takes AA batteries and has good macro, than Canon A630 or A640..

Lighting is the most important part, not the camera. Many digicams are pretty good at macro..

I would guess the real reason you have not got an answer is because this question about macro photography has been asked "thousands" of times..

And since you did not indicate that you had done any searches of previous post that indicates an "user attitude"..

So please do a little work yourself before asking, and if still cant get the answer at least indicate what you have done..

On the left side of your screen there is a buying guide.Did you notice that column and make any effort to search at least a little bit ?

Yes quite right, my apologies, I was too hasty. Shan't do that again in a hurry!..

Anway, on the assumption you're still interested, the sort of additional information that your first question lacked, which might help people provide some useful replies would include (in no particular order):.

Your previous experience and kit used, to give an idea of what may be too simple, or too complicated.

Budget, roughly?.

Scale of objects - rings or crowns and tiaras?.

Where you are - not quite everything's on sale everywhere.

Do you want a system that embeds the shooting time/date in the photo to prove when it was taken, or creates some form of indellibly-stamped file?.

Output required - prints (if so, what size) or digital only.

Video clips?.

Are you often allowed to use a tripod or similar, or only handheld - with or without a flash?.

Size restrictions - something that fits in a pocket, a briefcase or a suitcase?.

I guess that's most of it! You can probably see why you didn't receive many replies when people hadn't got details like these to work from?.

Hope that will help,Peter.

Peter,.

Thank you! I understood that my question was at the very least vague but it has been answered and I have bought a Canon A640 which is absolutely ideal for what I want so thanks for all the input..

John.

That's fine!.

I got to use either the '630 or the '640 when asked to take someone's photo for them. I took the chance to fiddle slightly and was really taken by the clarity of the screen and the general handling..

I'm sure you'll get some great pictures with it..
