What can I say about my Fuji S9100 (it's called the S9600 here in the UK).

Its my first proper digital camera with all the controls that I could wish to have & I spent a long time shopping around before choosing this model. It takes superb pictures, especially in low light; It's quick to start up; battery life is good; colour is great; range of functions is brilliant; build quality is superb & robust (I like the nice weight it has.. not flimsy or fragile feeling in the hands) Controls are right at your finger-tips.. or a couple of button pushes away... etc etc etc.

In conclusion... for those who, like me, can't afford the extra 100+ ($200+) for the equivalent Nikon or Canon $N00ty who aren't making money from professional picture taking & who want a superb camera that takes beautiful pictures, I highly recommend you at least take a look at this model in a proper outlet that will let you try it properly.

For those who like to take pictures in the dark (he he!) either buy a tripod or find the aperture control & stop worrying about grainy pictures at ISOs that only an MiB would ever be called upon to use! I've NEVER shot at higher than 400 ISO, because there is usually no need to.

Verdict: 10/10 for this level of camera. I wonder what Fuji's new SR CCD will be like? Attachments:.

Is it just me or S9600 seems to produce worse pictures at high ISO settings than cheaper S6500? I am choosing between them right now and S9600 looks perfect and has all features I need - CF, turning display, metal nest for tripod, but anywhere I see a comparison of these two models S6500 pics just look better...

I am going to buy a FinePix S9100.

What is the fastest CF card it can write to, ie, 40X,133X, etc?..

I love the feel of my 9100, the controls, the zoom - everything but the pics in ISO 400 and up, where it's a little disappointing. in 80 and 100, the pics look great and in 200, they're okay, so if you mostly shoot in the daytime or in any situation you can use ISO 80 or 100, you're good to go. if the S6500 is the S6000fd, most reviewers seem to feel it has a little less noise than the 9100 but some feel that at 800 or higher, it has some artifacting. either way, you won't do much better without moving to DSLRs...

Any recommendation for an external flash? I heard the Sunpak 333 super or the Vivitar 285HV would work but am looking for actual user feedback.

Thanks!..

Bill, I use the ProMaster 5750DX with a ProMaster off shoe grip and mount and am extremely happy with it. I supervise a Crime Scene Unit and shoot about 1500-2000 photos a month. The flash head rotates about anyway you can think of, has good coverage. It has proved very versatile and very reliable, it is extremely powerful as well. You might try Penn Camera they have it for about $130 and have been very reliable to deal with. Chris Keys..
