Fujifilm Finepix S100FS Discussion
My dream cameras have finally been announced.. how sad...

Wait!!! The Oly E-510 weighs less because it has NO LENS attached!!! You would need at least 2 lenses for the Oly to match the reach of the S-100, and those lenses alone would cost (and weigh) more than the S-100, by far.

Performance of that new Super CCD is one of the big mysteries right now. If Fuji has used the same formula as with the F-30/31, it will be fantastic. I would really like to see Fuji use that sensor as the basis for a whole new DSLR, with lenses sized for it. So much remains to be seen, and photographed!..

I bought canon 30d.

But I must say that s100fs is almost perfect camera.

I owned s6500fd.

And only things s100fs misses is real focus ring, not flybywire, tilt lcd as canon makes them and optical viewfinder.

Wow, I'm buying one for myself when they do that..

One specific and important point, in this camera, is the dynamic range that can be stretched from 100% up to 400%. This is a serious feature pretty important to a semipro digital camera.

The expected issue, about S100 FS is the background noise, that would "block" shooting at high ISOs. Concerning lens performance, Fuji has demonstrate a good performance, equivalent to Panasonic / Leica. Regards..

From the shots I have seen taken with this camera , the dynamic range feature seems to work. The lenses seems to be okay re sharpness, but it suffers from some pretty major purple fringing and green halos in certain aspects of the picture and lighting conditions...

Been using this camera for about a week. Seems that the dynamic range is more gimick than real. IQ is hit and miss. The 11 mega pixels crammed on that tiny sensor makes for lousey resolution ..which is lurking and explodes to view with cropping. The images are better at lower res settings. Purple fringing and barrel distortion are a problem if you don't PP.

Great ease of use factor. Doesn't feel cheap. More DSLR.

I am of mixed opinion re this cam. It can really suprise you with awesome images mostly from it's best end the zoomed out all the way end.(400mm).

Overall a good cam for average shooters who shoot jegs and do not get into pixel peeping, and also perhaps for more serious RAW shooters who know how to PP well. I am having a struggle deciding totake this thing back or not ..it is just so fun to use !!..

"Seems that the dynamic range is more gimick than real." That sounds typical for consumer marketing... How does this compare to the 9100 which I assume it will replace?..
