Please Help! I need your advice!.

I'm trying to decide wether I should buy the Fuji 602, Fuji 601 or the Canon S40 or G2. I'm concerned about quality. Questions:.

1) Fuji has an unusual technology where the 3Megapixel lens produces a 6MP image after interpolation. Is this image much better than the 4MP image produced by Canon G2 and S40? or is it just another 3MP picture with a little better resolution? 2) How do you compare the Fuji 602 vs. Canon G2? 2) The 601 and 602 are supposed to have the same quality and features. In terms of quality, do you think this is true? 3) Is it worth the wait for the 602, or should I go for the 601, or Canon S40/G2?..

Alex, I've read abit on the S602. The SuperCCD III is supposed to produce the best quality 3MP pic yet. I've found 3MP to be quite adequate unless you're printing or cropping images larger that 10x8. Additionally, it gets harder to maintain a cameras' speed with 4, 5, and 6MP size images, though I wish the S602 was at least a 4MP camera. The 6MP interpolation is not real 6MP, rather the resolution is doubled by setting adjacent pixels based on colors found around them. I believe the F601 is comparable but only has a 3x zoom.

The Canon G2 and S40 set the standard but are also only 3x zoom. And remember, the S602 is an SLR-like camera whereas the rest of these are not. You'll need to dig into the reviews and compare features... Good luck,.

John..

Is it just me, but I see a lot of purple fringing on Dave's test shots with the S602...

Diwanh - Actually, the 602 seemed to show less of the purple fringe than many cameras I've tested. As a check, I just shot a couple of pics of trees in my backyard, against a bright sky, and they really seemed to show relatively light fringing. There was definitely some there, but it seemed to be lighter in color than with some cameras, and also more restricted to the extreme corners. The best lenses I've seen with regard to fringing (chromatic aberration) have been those from Minolta, and this isn't quite that good, but it really seems better than most, at least to my eye. Alex - An important thing when comparing the Fuji "SuperCCD" cameras against others is to download the images and print them out. Fuji's interpolation makes the images look softer on-screen, but they show quite a lot of detail when printed.

OTOH, it's definitely a matter of personal preferences and druthers - the zoom ratio may be much less important to you than color or image sharpness. - That's why I shoot so many different pictures, trying to control the variables as much as possible: So people can look and evaluate based on their own preferences...

Dear Sir, I have a 6900z camera, and was wondering how the movie mode on the s602 compared. I have read the coupon but would there be any way to download a small movie file somewhere? Or have it emailed to me? Thanks!!! Gus..

I downloaded 2 movies. 1 from http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/fuji/finepix_s602-review/index.html (good reviews) and http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/fuji_s602z_samples.html..

Hi, Would there be any difference between Fuji's 3MP -> 6MP conversion on the 602 to 3MP->6MP conversions using a standard software package? I would assume Fuji uses the original surrounding CCD pixels to interpolate the image and software would use the existing image, usually jpeg, which would not be as accurate a rendition as possible at the "source". Is this correct?..

Dear Peter, Thank you for your reply and help!!! Gus..

Has anyone seen any indoor action shots taken with the S602? I am currently using the Oly C2100 to shoot figure skating. I need an upgrade in MP, focus speed, and low light performance without taking too big of a hit in zoom power. I'm hoping the S602 is the answer, but I haven't seen any shots that compare to what I have to take. action, in doors, low light, no flash. Has anyone seen any hockey, indoor soccer, gymnastics or basketball pictures with the S602?..
