Really depends what you want..
Some sites are more for the community, some are more into criticism / commentary, some are aimed at letting you sell prints, some are technologically slicker, there are sites which let you associate music with slideshows. Some restrict hotlinking images moreso than others total traffic, resolution, so forth. Some allow you to restrict viewing to those who are signed in. Some make money through subscriptions, some have advertising, and so forth..
If you search for 'image hosting' there are a LOT of hits...
Hi Peter,.
You can get a feel for the Google/Picasa one by clicking link to my gallery below - hope it works (... but I'm an absolute beginner in all things photography, so don't expect a viusal feast!! This one is good for my needs though, becuase I've got Picasa loaded on my laptop as my way of sorting and filing images, and I can upload directly to the online gallery, and it automatically changes the size/resolution from 3mB to web-suitable (they propably all do though)...Google do pretty user-friendly freeware in my humble opinion.Good luck with it. You know what? I've jsut had a look at Flickr...and it's pretty good! Probably lots of features Picasa web doesn't have too (unless I just haven't looked too far into it yet). Let us know what you choose and why? JoLive well, laugh often, love much.....
I just tried pbase.com..
I set up an account (free trial 30 day) and gave up after 5 minutes. It seems so primitive. It uggests that if you want to upload multiple files then you can create a zip file and upload that. But then there is nothing on their Website explaining how to do that. I don't know how to do that. So, I am going to try somewhere else.
Peter..
Take a look ar Zenfolio. It has the best user and viewer interface on the market..
Zenfolio has dynamic resizing based on your browser and screen resolution..

I have uploaded 350MB without problems on several occaisons using their simple using simple cut and paste batch uploader.
The site is never down save for very occasioanal upgrades..
Take a look around my site as a guide..

Chris... Zenfolio is a great-looking site. Clean and absolutely beautifully layed out. I will be reading more about it's features and will use your referrel number (which I saw on your page at zenfolio) if I proceed past the trial period..
As we say in America: "That's what I'm talking about!!".
Peter.
PS Your cat pictures look just like my long-gone best-cat-ever, Dusty...
Peter,.
You are welcome. They are very helpful and quick to respond if you have problems (not that I have really had any) and always open to suggestions..

Alberto,.
I just set up my account with Zenfolio. I don't mind paying for a site that is clean (I hate banners and flashing things), professional and classy..
Yes, I will check out your site!.
Mine is pfrailey.zenfolio... but there's only a few locked wedding pictures right now. I think next I will experiment with uploading some of my pictures on a trip to Montana and Wyoming in June, which I will keep open to the public.... one warning: I am an amateur *g* but it is hard to ruin outdoor shots from Montana and Wyoming, for sure.....
Peter..
I'm a Flickr man myself, being of the web2.0 persuasion...
