File size afterr PP
Why after PP a file, it's size (for example 3,1 MB) reduces to 1,2 MB? I mean, without cutting it out.Is it at the expense of the image quality?..

If the file type is still the same, the first thing I would think of is the new file IQ. is it all the way to max quality? if no, and the starting file was that is your answer..

Personally, I shoot jpegs. the first thing I do after the keep, trash sort is convert them to tiffs. yes they are much larger but youcan save the tiffs repeatedly forever with no loss of IQ. cannot say that about jpegs. my original jpeg are put into a holdall folder if I ever need them again. all work is done off the tiff, including making a jpeg for the internet...

It depends on what you are doing in PP.Sharpening will increase the file size, other actions will decrease it.You should also verify your S/W is saving at max file quality on JPEGSWarm regards,DOF..

Forgot where I read this, but the newest photo editors do a pretty good job at maintaining photo quality throgh many-many edits. IIRC, the author opened, edited, saved, and closed a JPEG 30 times with no great loss of quality.Warm regards,DOF..

When you save a JPEG you can choose the 'quality' factor. Typically this defaults to 75-85%, which, if your file were originally saved ( by the camera ) at a higher quality level then the file shrinks..

That's a pretty common discovery when people first post process, so it may be your issue..

As another poster pointed out some PP actions, including noise reduction and/or blurring can shrink an image, while others can increase it..
