How much do they charge for the 2 years extended warranty?..
When I got my D80 I got an extended warranty. It was another Aus $70 I think, not much..
I probably will get a new camera before it runs out but it's such small price to be assured of a working camera for three years...
Warranty vs Insurance....
Extended warranty covers manufacturer defects the same as the OEM. Given the numbers of units sold and the fact they are primarily electronic, there are few that are ever problematic But... if they do occur, the initial fees are usually in the $150+ range for evaluation. If you want some peace of mind, a low cost Mack warranty ($20 for 3-years) is one way to go....

Alternatively, an insurance rider will cover accidents, theft etc but, as in any insurance approach, you run the risk of higher premiums/cancellations if you ever make a claim..
A lot of people have strong opinions on the issue. In the end, it's your decision and level of need for risk-aversion that is most important.Telecorder (Dave)FZee30+RD-S+OlyTC1.7XDee50+Nikon 35mm F2.0D-AF+Nikkor18-70DX+Tam70-300L+BIGMA 50-500 EX HSMMy Image Galleries.

What store are you buying the camera from?.
Make sure you read all the fine print. If your camera needs repair, how long is it away for? where does it get sent to? Do they replace it right away for you? What is covered for repair?.
Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. If the salesperson says that if anything goes wrong and they will replace it...get it in writing. I just got screwed over by that. I was told one thing a year ago...and just so happens policy changed...
Thanks for your replies, The extra warranty will cost me $50 AUD as you say it's not a lot for peace of mind I guess...
Depends on what it covers. If it is only camera failure, I'll take my chances. Most credit cards double the mfgs warranty on defects anyway..
However, if it covers stupidity and wear and tear, then yes. I had a "stupidity" warranty on my last camera which I dropped into a pool (yes, a very good reason to use the wrist strap. lesson learned : o ) Since my warranty covered accidental damage, it was replaced. Well worth the 59.00.LG..
