Was there really any need to cross post this on two forums?.
There is nothing new in what you are saying. It goes on all the time..

....to be a jerk, Chris..
I thought that this post would also be very useful in the beginners' forum..
The fact that it goes on all the time doesn't preclude the need to educate or to learn; that's why these forums are here after all...
Thank you for posting this information, although I am not new to e-bay, and I know what goes on in that site, there are probably thousands of new people to the net who are still on the learning curve, and this information is just what they need.Well done for pointing it out..
Mike Rudge..
So why post it in the Nikon Forum as well?.
But in any event do you seriously think that anybody who is savvy enough to be reading this site will not have the brains to do a search on Ebay and check out other prices? Often rogue prices on Ebay are the result of shill bidding or from those who have no intention of paying..
And there really is no need to use (midly) offensive language because someone has a different point of view.Chris Elliott.

Don't assume that everybody shares your level of information or insight; it's good to share..
As for the (mild) expleteive, it was directed at your needlessly condescending (& a bit arrogant) attitude...
This is a good tip, and should be re-posted in some form on a regular basis to help out the newbies..
I could easily see how someone could find themselves reading messages on the DPReview Forums (which is typically at the top of most search engine results), and still be a complete eBay novice. You do not have to have an account to read the DPReview forums, so it is very easy to stumble upon these forums, just as much as it is to stumble upon an eBay auction when using a search engine to find something you want to buy..
In my eBay experience (which is extensive), most of the overpriced auctions are not shill bidding, but uneducated and/or inexperienced buyers getting into a bidding frenzy without really thinking through the amount their highest bid should be. I have been the seller in such auctions, and indeed felt rather guilty knowing that someone WAY overpaid for a used item when they could've bought new for less. I've also been a frustrated buyer, watching something that I really wanted to buy used continue to be bid up and up and up to the point that it was no longer a good deal. In those cases, I just try to think, "Good for the seller they got a lot of money out of the item.".
As an eBay buyer you also need to do your research on the seller. Check out their profile, feedback, past auctions (you can do that by simply checking the box that says "show completed items only" or something similar), etc. Even if their feedback is 100% positive, read through a lot of it. eBay is not a perfect place, and most people will NOT leave negative feedback for someone because they are worried about getting negative feedback in retaliation. However, when someone feels they were cheated, they will leave a positive feedback rating, but in the accompanying text will say something like, "Not at all happy, slow shipping, broken product, seller threats". I see that more and more lately because the eBay feedback system is virtually unregulated, so everyone is afraid of the retaliatory negative feedback (even if they didn't deserve it).
Also look closely at their previous items purchased. A clear indication that something could be wrong with an item they're selling is if they just bought that item from another eBay member a few weeks ago. Why are they re-selling it? Is it not what they expected? Is it broken or damaged? If nothing else, you definitely don't want to pay more for it than they did..
I love buying and selling on eBay, but it really stinks when something goes wrong. It has for me about three times now, so it can happen to anyone. Overall, eBay is a good place to get good deals and clean up the house by selling some quality items..

To summarise:.
"You should read the rules below and understand them before posting......
Cross posting - We frown upon cross-posting of messages, especially if it is continuously abused by the same posters and/or simply contains an image or gallery link. Anyone repeatedly cross posting may have their cross-posted messages removed and/or face a temporary ban".

"There is nothing new in what you are saying. It goes on all the time.".
How is that condescending and arrogant? Especially in reply to a post that says:.
"I guess that some people are LUCKY that other people are so STUPID.".
You must expect others to have a differing opinion. I note you got sarcastic replies to you Nikon post. It costs little to be polite when airing a difference of opinion. There is nothing wrong with dissagreement but that is different from being dissagreable..

Take the pickle out, Chris..
Cross posting is 'frowned upon', NOT prohibited, and ONLY if done repeatedly. Slow day?..
I hope you are not going to attempt to sabotage any of MY ebay auctions in this way..
I rely on stupid people to finance my hobby..
Luckily there really is one born every day. .
And if you must cross post then don't get so shirty when someone pulls you up for it. Frowned upon doesn't mean we just sit here and frown. ..

An interesting approach to funding your hobby - take advantage of and screw other people. Do you apply this same philosophy & business approach elsewhere?.

Although his post was a bit flippant, I think he was more making a comment in agreement (albeit with a bit of jest) with the seemingly masses of people who typically overpay for used items on eBay. To that point, I agree with him..
However, not all people who overpay on eBay are stupid. Some people simply cannot get it anywhere else cheaper (usually because of where they live), or perhaps money isn't so important to them that they feel like shopping for a bargain..
I admit it I'm frugal, and I've lost out on many an eBay auction because I would pay $0.50 more. Where I draw the line at $0.50, some draw the line at $5.00, $15.00, etc..

I can see that I didn't need to defend you at all. That was funny and a nice deflection of some rather negative comments..

Yeah, don't practice that type of thing on eBay because you can't auction love and if you try, eBay will suspend your account. Uh...I don't know that for sure... I...uh...um...heard it...from my great aunt's nephew's cousin's friend...er...uh.... yup.....
