Well, I would expect that reducing the image height and width by half will create an image with one quarter of the original pixels. So you are ending up with a file rather less in quality than the original..
When saving in jpeg format, you have the choice of how much compression you wish to apply:.
Image control:Zoom outZoom 100%Zoom inExpand AllOpen in new window.
In Elements you can do this by changing the quality - shown as "Medium" in my example to a better setting. Equally, you can drag the slider "small file - large file" to the right to increase the quality..
Similar settings exist in most photo editors. For example Paint shop pro has this settings dialogue:.
Image control:Zoom outZoom 100%Zoom inExpand AllOpen in new window.
Hope this helps,Peter..
Peter,.
A very helpful answer!.
A question within a question. Is it easy to import those images to your messages? If so how do you do it? There have been a number of accasions asking for help or helping others when a picture would have been worth a 1,000 words..
I am used to right clicking on an html frame and saving a gif or whatever but I am not sure how you go about extracting boxes from a program. In my case I might most often want to do it with Capture NX..
I must not hijack this thread so if the answer is more than a couple of lines (and it is not too much trouble) perhaps you could email me..

Hi Chris ,.
It's just a standard feature of windows that's been around for a long time. Most people know that pressing the "Print Screen" key will copy the entire screen to the clipboard. Then you can paste it into your favourite image editor..
But to make life even easier, hold down the "Alt" key while pressing "Print Screen". That captures just the current active window to the clipboard. Then I saved the images in PNG format, which is better than JPEG for images like this, containing text and fine detail..
Regards,Peter..
As the answer stated the issue is most certainly the image quality setting when saving..
To slightly elaborate, a low quality setting would be around 75% - that's probably about right for web use. About 85% is a kind of medium level - probably fine for typical prints. Above that you're trying to preserve detail. A high quality setting on a camera should be 90-100%, but this varies..
The default in most applications seems to be to use a mid-range setting..

Thank you, everyone! And I was also interested in the addendum question :o)Elizabeth..
That does help, thank you! I have had mine at a pretty high setting, but maybe I'll put it at the highest possible setting for a while to see if that helps.Elizabeth..
