DPreview just posted a very postive review of the E-410. There are a lot of people in the Olympus forum who have posted E-410 reviews. Head over there and ask some questions.Paul..
Also, after reading lots of reviews of the canon, it seems to havesome problems with the autofocus (something that I plan to use alot, at least for the first couple of months)..
I've not heard any problems about autofocus, and don't have any with mine..
The Canon 400D/XTi is ultimately probably the better camera IQ-wise, certainly for high ISO work, but the Olympus is very nice too and has the advantage of the live view and a dust removal system that appears to work better than Canon's..
You can't go too far wrong with either..
I bought a Sigma 17-70 for my 400D, and it works really well as an all in one lens (does great macros too). It's very sharp and a cut above any of the lenses you might get in a kit. The constant f/2.8 17 or 18-50 zooms from Sigma and Canon are good choices too..

The professional photography review site pixinfo.com, which unfortunately posts most of it's reviews in Hungarian only, has reported focus problems with the Canon EOS 400D (known as the XTi in America) when the EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM and EF 50mm f/1.8 II lenses - both of which are very sharp when you get good focus - are mounted on the camera.http://pixinfo.com/cikkek/canon_eos-400d.6They are saying though that it might be true of their review sample only.pbase Supporter..
I haven't owned any of the Olympus DSLR's so can't comment on them. I do own the XTi though and can vouch for it's outstanding image quality, even with the kit lense I am impressed. The pictures have an almost 'silky' feel to them..
You can download full-size images from both of your choices from this site, compare them both and see which you prefer..
Also, you might want to consider the long term as well. Meaning, if you're intending to keep your new purchase for a while then you will find that because of the sheer number of Canon owners out there, pre-owned lenses are a lot easier to get a hold of and tend to be cheaper as well. In my experience anyway..

I took a look at the canon rebel XT and XTI, the olympus E410, thenikon 40 and the pentax K100. I narrowed it down to the olympusand the canon after holding them in my hands. For me the canon is feeling more comfortable and more responsive, but the olympus come with 2 lenses and I heard that they're betterthan the canon lens that comes in the kit..
The oly kit lenses are far better than the canon kit lenses. it's a big difference, and it will impact your photos..
Thanks a lot (sorry for the bad english).
NEVER EVER EVER apologize to english speaking peoples about your 'bad english', which is just fine, BTW. so few english speaking people can converse, read or write in another language[including mei can only read in french] that it is just shocking. it's a hideous arrogance. i'm ashamed of my poor language skills. you should be proud of yours...
