closest you'll get to a dSLR?
I'm looking to purchase a new camera in the near future and currently own a sony dsc-p73. one of the main reasons I first purchased this camera was it's size. I have small hands, so dSLRs and even regular digital cameras are often too hard for me to get my hands around. however this one is a nice 2.2 inches in height..

However, this camera is getting old and lacking in features. the zoom is only 3x and the MP is only 4.1. i'd like something more advanced, but am leaning towards more MP if optical zoom is not an option. or perhaps there are non-dSLR cameras that let a user add lenses?.

Anyway, here are some models i've considered:pentax optio a30panasonic lumix dmc-lx2/leica d-lux 3samsung nv11panasonic dmc-tz3.

A rundown of the features i'm looking for:.

Short in height or easy to access snapshot button, my current camera height is 2.2 incheslight weight, current weight is 243 g (8.6 oz)high MP count, at least more than my current 4.1high optical zoom, at least more than my current 3xlots of nice settings and manual features.

So basically I need a small yet powerful camera. any suggestions?.

Thanks in advance!..

The closest most DSLR-like camera is a Fuji 9100. Not pocketable though..

A DSLR to fit small hands could be the Canon Rebel 400 as plenty of people say it is too small for them to use comfortably..

But what you probably should be looking at is the Canon G7. You can add a flash gun to this if you wish..

Thanks! i've looked at the G7, and it does seem like the closest i'll come to getting an dSLR-like camera. however, perhaps I should have given this thread a different title. in the spectrum of point and shoot, which gives the user the best image quality? most manual features or settings?.

Once again, thank you for your input!..

"Point & Shoot:" this is a not a good description of a camera genre. It begs the questions: how much point & shoot, how much manual control?.

Perhaps if you could list some of the things you wish to do manually with a compact camera of this kind, and decide if a viewfinder is important, then we may be able to give you more detailed advice. For example Fuji f31 is better than most pocket size camera for electronic noise control, but it is not better than others for other aspects of handling. I think the Canon G7 offers the most satisfactory compromise.John.Please visit me at:http://www.pbase.com/johnfr/backtothebridgehttp://www.pbase.com/johnfr..

Or maybe one of the Olympus range - they are indeed tiny.Rob.

For a high zoom in a small package try the Panasonic TZ3 ( 10x ) or the Canon A710 IS ( 6x )..

Should be enough manual controls in either..

Alternatively try the Fuji E900. Only a 4x zoom, but full manual and RAW. About the same size and weight as the Canon..

Hmmmm I see we have the same quote....

I am voting for the Canon G7...a sweet camera, unless you have the cash for the lumix dmc-lx2 a very sweet machine...just not quite a versitile....but really sweet...would love one to mess with....

I had a g7 but returned it due to it's speed, very slow.f31fd is very good on image quality, manual controls, speed etc...

The closest and best thing to a dSLR is Fuji Finepix S6000fd..

Check out reviews from several sources here: http://www.dphotojournal.com/...ujifilm-finepix-s6000fd-review-sample-photos/..

If the original poster is prepared for the weight of an S6500 ( which was not what they indicated in their post ) then the Fuji S9100 is closer to a DSLR than the S6500..

The closest you are going to get to a DSLR without actually buying one would be either the Panasonic FZ50, Fuji S9000 or Sony R1!.

Thats it.end of story!.

None of them will fit in your shirt pocket..

Of course, neither will any DSLR, for that matter..
