Those are all good cameras, but none of them give you manual controls and I thought you said that was inmportant to you. Check the Cameras listed in the forum and look for compacts that have shutter and aperture priority settings if thats important to you. The only one I can find that meets your criteria is the CAsio Exilim EX V7..

I am then looking for a good quality compact camera, small enough to put in my pocket.Main things I am looking for are..
Good quality large screen.Image stabilizationGood image quality (sharpness, noise etc)Large zoom (As with the Z7590)If possible manual overides/control. (As with the Z7590)..
Sound like one of the canons to me. As you can see I'm a Fuji addict and get along fine without image stabilisation, but if you must have it a Canon A710 IS is fair enough. A largish compact - perhaps one of the ultra compact canons has IS ? .
The Canon's also use SD's, so you should be able to reuse you memory cards - check out individual models however..
If you can live without IS, consider a Fuji E900 or perhaps the old S5200/S560O which is very cheap now. If you can stand the weight and bulk the S6500fd is probably the best non-IS P&S on the market ( IMO ). It's a good stepping stone to a DSLR as well and can shoot RAW..
I would not recommend any of the cameras you listed. It's only my opinion, of course, but you asked, so I'm telling..
Lastly I ran a quick scan on your behalf and it looks like the nearest to ideal for you are :.
Canon S3 IS - very well respected P&S and widely regarded.
Sony H5 or H7 - I'd regard them as below the S3, but it's a personal thing.
Canon S5 - not reviewed yet, and an unknown quantitybased on pedigree should be good, but no one knows yet.
Sony H9 - reviews seem to be quite negative.
Olympus SP 550 - reviews negative.
Hope that helps..

Stephen, all of your suggestions are good, but the OP was asking for a pocketable camera with manual controls. There aren't a lot of cameras that meet those two criteria unfortunately. Most of the canons are a bit bulky to stick in your pocket including the A710..

I see what you're saying..
I guess it depends on what size pocket you think off. I carry my A710 in a jacket pocket, or in a shoulder bag. People don't always mean "pocket" when they say "pocketable", I think..
I think Canon make an ultra compact series, one of which might have IS. I'd like a little more bulk to hold myself..
Cheers..

You're right. This is what's so hard about recommending cameras to other people. What seems lightweight and small to one person can seem like a brick to someone else..
At times I've used my daughters casio exilim because I can just slip it in my pocket and hardly know it's there. Sometimes thats extremely important (like when we were climbing through an arial obstical course recently). Other times when image quality is more important than weight but I still don't want to carry a brick ( Like weddings, family birthdays etc), I use my other daughters panasonic FX7. And when quality is paramount ( vacations and artistic endevours) I use my Fuji S9000 ( recently upgraded to Canon 400D). Not sure what I'm going to do when my kids go off to school and take their cameras with them..

The type of camera I am looking for is one I could slip into a shirt top pocket or my trouser pocket. I am visiting London for a week soon and dont want to have to carry a bulky camera around as this does attract attention to pick pockets etc. If I had to take a bulky camera I would take the Kodak I already have, Thanks...

Good choice among ultra-compacts, as it has wide-angle lens, 7x zoom, I.S., but no manual modes (in-fact no ultra-c has except Casio Ex-V7). Lens is also prone to purple-fringing..
However I would prefer TZ3, as it has sharp lens with minimal distortion/fringing. Although it is a bit thicker. If ultra-compact size is priority than Sony T100 (8MP, 5x zoom with I.S., sturdy) or SD800IS..
Casio EX-V7.
Poor sharpness at tele-end of zoom, fringing..
Kodak V610.
Poor iQ as uses very high compression, no I.S..
