Choose one ??????
I need to choose between 4 d slr cameras.

Canon 400dnikon d40xolympus e 410olympus e 510.

I enjoy bird photography and need to use iso 400 + to get faster shutter speed.also will use 28-300 zoom lens..

Which one of the four would best do the job...

The e510 will 'double' your focal length with lenses and it has a very effective shake reduction system so you can do all your shots hand held .

Would be my choice..

The C&N cameras would need IS lenses and are not as feature rich as the e510. If you are considering an e510 it is a category higher than the rest and the best camera in that lot..

Thanks.

So the 150mm that comes in the kit would give me a 300mm..

Basically, yes, it gives you the field of view of a 300mm lens with a 150mm lens. The aperture remains the same as that is to do with the real focal length..

You will have a greater depth of field than with a 300mm lens..

It will be very small and light and if you decided to get a big lens, such as the Bigma (Sigma 50-500) it would be come equivalent to a 100-1000 lens!.

I'd endorse what Tyr says. All are good cameras and for 'general' use it's a toss-up. but if you want specifically bird photography, the longer (effective) focal length (= greater magnification) due to smaller sensor size, and in-camera image stabilisation of the Olympus, make it a good choice for you. the twin-lens bundles around at the moment are a very good deal..

Best wishesMike..

Why those 4? Pentax & Sony aren't bad:-).

They'll also give you the image stabiliser like the E-510,which you'd probably need using a 300mm lens because that would also be multiplied by 1.5x to 450mm..

I'd look at the K10d,& I'm a Minolta user (the last Pentax I used had a great viewfinder, useful if you have to go to manual focus)...

I have always liked canon and know nikon is a good camera..

What made me think about olympus is the fact that their point and shoot cams produce brilliat quality pics. The 510 with the two lenses seems to be a good deal. Have never thought about pentax or sony..

I was going to get a nikon because Ii have tamron mirror lens (500mm) with nikon mount but does not seem to work on the d40x.I'm sure Ill be happy with any of themYour advise is a help.

I m pulling my hair out at the moment !!!!!!!.

Thanks guys..

I shoot Pentax and find the lack of telephoto lenses a bit annoying at present. There are 3rd party lenses but, I would like some long Pentax glass..

Go for the Olympus you won't be disappointed. Especially for wildlife photography, you will see the difference..

Thanks tyr.

Being from South Africa wildlife is always on the menu.

Maybe you could tell me why the tamron mirror lens does not work on the d40xgives and error on the f stop (love that lens).

One thing I am worried about is wide angle on the oly. The kit lens is 14-42 which is 28 -80 (NOT VERY WIDE). How does one go wider than that?..
