Hi, I picked up an SD780 (Ixus 100 in the UK) and I am actually really pleased with it. I have owned quite a few of the IXUS (Elph) range and at first I was concerned by the amount of noise in the pictures compared to my IXUS 870IS (SD880). But having used it more I have discovered that this is only on the 'AUTO' mode as it seems to always select a high ISO. If you take the same shot in P mode but with all the auto settings the image quality is much much better and that is the reason I will keep the camera. It would be great if it had a 28mm lens but it's so small that it won me over. I now avoid the the 'Auto' mode and the camera has become a winner!! Cheers Ben.
Ben, The crops in the review comparing the SD780, SD880 and SD1000 in "P" mode at ISO 80 show the SD880 (and SD1000) clearly outperform the SD780 even at the base ISO. Perhaps you don't make larger prints?.
Either I lucked out or the reviewer got a bad camera. I get no noticeable lens flare at all at 100x, either with the lens open or tele. There is no pinkish cast to the tungsten setting. In fact I set the P function on incandescent, 400 iso and no flash for most indoor pics with reasonable ambient light. This is very handy when moving indoors; I just move the slider down one notch from auto where it's set for outdoor shots. The 400 iso setting is more grainy when magnified, but not noticeably so for 4 X 6 prints or computer viewing.
I've owned several generations of the digital elph, including sd1000, and sd800 recently. I can't see any significant difference in quality between the 780 and the others. Attachments:.
