I bought this cam about a month ago and love it. I recently went out and bought SanDisk 256mb Compact Flash at Best Buy for about $35. It seems to have a much slower write time than the flash that came with the camera. I've been told by several people that with this camera I will not notice a write speed difference with any of the more expensive "ultra" flash cards. I've also read many reviews saying that PNY brand cards are crap and frequently lose data. Any opinions or suggestions on which cards are better, faster, more reliable? Thanks!.

I recommend you the Ultra Sandisk Flashcard. I have bought 2 units and they are teriffic and very fast during writing..

Has anyone else noticed that when the AiAF is on that the focus is occasionally a little off...I think what it decides to focus on and what I want to focus on are occasionally different especially in lower light situations. Anybody else have this problem? Or am I the only one..

From reading reviews, the Flash card that comes with the camera has a write speed of 8x. Check the write speed on your SanDisk, if it doesnt say anything like "High Speed" or give a write speed, then it may be slower than 8x. From the price you mention, it sounds like it may be a low speed card. I've seen the SanDisk 256mb at Circuit City for about $55 and the Lexar 256mb 12x for about $70. The Lexar cards are also available in 512mb 12x and 512mb 40x write speeds at prices of about $140 and I think about $190 respectively. I've decided to get the Lexar cards that are rated 12x and should be a lot faster than the originals.

In fact, I just ordered the 512mb 12x card for $81 including shipping and tax (as opposed to $140 at Good Guys).

Recently purchased this camera. I am wondering for regular 4X6 prints what is the best overall compression setting to useL M1 M2 or S, as well should I be using Superfine, Fine or Normal. We are Travelling to Disney in July and I would like to have a good handle on it before we go as this is my first Digicam..

I had pretty much decided to buy this one for my first digicam. Now, I am torn betwween this one and the SI IS PowerShot version (long zoom 10X and image stabilization) mainly becuase my hands shake a lot more than average. Does anyone with expereince think I am overreacting? I really like the S500....

I'm proud to have the camera like S500. It's small and cute. But I want to use my camera as a file transfer device. So I tried to copy file from the computer's hard disk to my "powershot S500" drive in the winxp explorer but there is no paste is available. Could anyone help me what's the problem in my computer? .

Excellent model of canon in digital world. I had S1 IS but 3.2 Mega pixel which I didn't like and got new powershot S500. I don't have comment on the picture quality. So, don't make confuse on S500, because it's just better and cheaper too..

I just got the S500 and have a question about the "Quick Shot" functionality. Since I mostly take pictures of my kids, I like the added speed it gives me to be able to capture those "special" moments. What are the drawbacks to using "Quick Shot"? Will the quality of the picture be worse in some way or another? What is the shortcutting to be able to take the picture quicker?.

I am deciding between the s500 and s410. Money is not an issue, however in looking at the sample images for the s500 there appears to be smudging of the bright colours where it meets dark colours. This appears to be especially evident on the left side of the images. Anyone experience similar problems with the images??? or any comment on the image quality. Thanks.

The trick I use, though it's not perfect, does help a lot. When you think there might be a good shot coming, half-press the shutter button so that it pre-focuses. If it's pre-focused and you then press the button the rest of the way, it will take the picture almost instantly. 'Course the problem is that you need to anticipate those Kodak (er...canon) Moments. Hope that helps..

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I would like to know the difference in performance of the red-eye reduction feature in the S500 vs. the S60. I like the sound of every other aspect of the S60, but on this score you give it a poor rating. How does the S500 stack up? Thanks!.

Yes, I have the same issue with the AiAF. Except, my situation is worse. My camera rarely focuses on the right subject. If I'm taking a simple portrait headshot, I get 2 green squares to the right and left of the person's ears! It's very annoying. I have a bunch of friends who own various models within Powershot series. Those that have the AiAF also mentioned this problem.

It usually makes the subjects' noses, foreheads, and cheeks overly bright(washed out). Anyone have suggestions on how to overcome this problem?.

I too am considering a 410 or 500 and wondering just which camera seems the best overall regarding the pictures and the review..

I'm wondering the same thing, I'm almsot about to buy an A95 and suffer witht he buldge in my pocket. The only reason I really need the A95 over the 410 is for the 640x480 video. Most important to me is picture quality and if the 410 does better than the 500, it's not worth the extra video, but at the same time I need the video, so it looks like the only solution is the A95. or am I over reacting? I didn't like the way the S500 took pics of the dave box at all, in fact it's one of the worst pictures in this area I have sceen so far!.

All of my no-flash, indoor shots are blurry. My Sony MVC-CD300 handles these shots no problem. Do I have one of the settings screwed up? Indoors, my subjects cannot move, and I cannot move at all, or the picutres are incredibly blurry. It's horrible. Any help or advice?.
