In comparing the sample pictures of the lady holding the flowers for the S40 and the G2, the image for the s40 seemed less sharp than for the g2. This seemed to be the case for the other portrait. Is this a feature of the camera or an event of taking the pictures? Look at the forehead and hair and the clapboards: they all seem slightly fuzzier in the s40..

Yeah, the images of the S40 does look less crispy. But the same seems to be true when looking at the pictures for S10 and S20 as well. Also the ixus seems to be fuzzier. Maybe it's the compact size that does it?.

You can select "Reset All" in the Setup menu to restore the camera to factory defaults. Use "Format" in the same menu to reformat the the memory card, which will erase all images and restore the card to it's intial state..

Are you all blind???? do you don't read that the focus was on the flowers instead of the lady!!!!!! it already say in the review column.

Ive compared the sample pictures of the S40 with that of G2 on this side. Those of the G2 are better! They are sharper and showing more details.

I wonder if the here tested unit S40 was in order? => When have a look at the pictures of the same resolution test chart on www.dpreview.com, that result was significant better as the same resolution test on this side..

Does anyone know how to edit a movie clip and put it back in the camera? I have editing tools (Premiere, Vegas Video), I'm looking for how to send an edited video back to the camera.

Thanks.

Shoot, I was nearly sold on the S40 until I read some comments here that indicate the G2 seems to produce a far better image.... now I'm in a quandry as to which way to go.... I'm just an average Joe that wants some good quality photos to save and share with family. Thanks greg.

Maybe, just maybe, you might have to reset your camera for AV/IN... I know I had to get mine to AV/OUT to get video to my PC..

Looking at the Comparometer in this site, I thought that the S30 produced slightly better/sharper images than the S40.Check it out. I used the house 2 picture. Agree, or am I missing something?.

Yup. The S30 images are absolutely better than the S40 images and are VERY close to G2 quality!.

Oh bummer. I just ordered the S40 over the S30 because of the deals they have right now. Is that a mistake? I did look at the pictures in the Comparometer and it's a little tough to tell but it does seem to be true. I wonder if I can switch them before the order is processed. I've done a lot of research lately and my mind is very loopy from it. Is there THAT much difference between them and their features?.

Can anyone tell me what I should do, buy the s40 or the g2??.

Can anyone tell me what I should do, buy the s40 or the g2?? depends, is size more important or quality. The G2 sounds like it is slightly better quality, but the S40 is much smaller. take you pick..

I just got an S40 and I'm really happy with it. I'm not professional, and for a decent, compact digital camera, this is everything I need. Perhaps the G2 is better and produces sharper images, and if that's what you need, go for it. I like the S40 because at the resolution I need, it produces clear, sharp images. I just spent two weeks fighting with a Minolta S304, and got totally frustrated with the lack of battery life it gave, so now this Canon seems like heaven! Good luck, everybody!.

My situation EXACTLY...

Don't care about the small price difference...

Do like smaller size of S40...can take to a game/party/event without .

Focusing on the fact that I've brought a camera.

But if pics S40 takes are truly inferior, then best to get the other, right?!?.

Do you notice any big differnce to worry about? .

Just go with S40 over G2?.

I bought an S40 about a week ago. I've been using it mostly at holiday parties with indoor lighting (at night). I've been very frustrated by the S40's inability to focus in this kind of situation. About 20 percent of the time the S40 indicates focus error. If I then take the picture it is usually WAY out of focus. I have tried the fully auto mode as well as the P mode with the focus point set to the middle position.

I have missed some nice opportunities because of this. My previous camera was a Kodak DC240, which only occasionally had focus problems. I was hoping that the S40 would improve upon the DC240's performance, not be considerably worse. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm thinking of returning the camera at this point. In most (or all) other respects it is great.

I've found the various reviews to be right on except for the indoor lighting focus issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, .

Kirk.
