Hi Dave, Great Review!!! Gave some insight that I wanted to know. Now I'd like to know whether the image quality of the canon S2IS is on par/comparable with Canon A95. Thanks.
Can someone help me with macro and super macro with my new Canon S2 IS? I am a total newbie and have always just shot pix in Auto Focus. I bought this camera because I have always wanted to do macro and mega zoom. I have grandchildren doing school plays and want to be able to zoom in and take great pix. HELP, I am frustrated! Teresa.

Ramanatha, You can use the comparometer to compare S2 to A95 images: .

Anyone care to compare the Canon S2-IS and the Sony DSC-H1? I'm keen to buy one or the other and from what I can tell they both seem to be receiving equally high praise. thanks!.
Teresa, Could you tell us what the problem is? Page 56-58 of the S2 manual describe how macro works. The macro mode button is on the left side of the lens barrel (with lens pointing away from you), just below the MF button. It has the usual flower icon. Pressing it once will put you into macro mode, allowing you to get as close as 3.9" to the subject (the zoom should be set to maximum wide-angle). You should see the flower icon on the top right of the LCD/EVF. Pressing it twice will put you into super macro mode, allowing you to get so close you can touch the lens, so be careful! You should see a "S" flower icon on the display when in super macro mode.
Maxx.
Teresa, I think you're confusing macro mode with zoom mode. Macro mode is for taking photos of objects from very close range. Usually within inches of the camera. I have a feeling that you meant to say zoom mode. From what I understand, the manual is incorrect regarding going from macro mode to super macro mode. It's not another press of the macro button but rather holding it down for a few seconds.
Hope this helps. Art.
Where is the review of the Canon S2 1S? .
All I can find is a blank page!.
Robert: Clicking on the link in the original message: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/S2IS/S2ISA.HTM takes me right to the review. Forum Admin.
The table under "Power" on the "Picky Details" page shows in both "Capture Mode" and "Half-pressed shutter" that the "Power" is ~62 mA higher and the "Est. Minutes" is lower using the EVF vs the LCD. Is this correct or do I not understand the table since I have been told that an EVF always uses less power?.
Drew, At the following link you will find that power consumption using the EVF is somewhat lower, according to Canon. But there is only little difference. http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/pss2is/003-e.html.
The Canon AC adapter (Compact Power Adapter CA-PS700) sells for $65 at Canon's store, and I can't find it much under $50, but I already have power adapters suitable for this. However, I'm not sure what the size of the plug is, though it looks to be about 3-3.2mm OD, 1-1.1mm ID, and I don't know what the polarity is (center pin positive or negative). Does anyone know the plug size and the polarity? Thanks....
Looking to buy a digital camera with 5 megapixels, 12x or more optical .

I am completely satisfied with my wonderful Canon S2 IS. I only have one bit of confussion. When I take a MOVIE and SOUND is captured also, the only way I have figured out how to DELETE the movie and sound is to (after downloading and saving said movie) REFORMATE the SD card! This trick works for now, but what if I have several movies on my 1G card and want to SAVE one of them? Question: How to DELETE the MOVIE and SOUND! I can delete a sound NOTE and picture just fine.
Thank you if you can help!.
