Well, if nobody start here I will... I start it...
I recently bought this cam about 4 weeks ago.. as far as I can see there is not much to complain... the cam is well balanced and easy to handle... except a view minor points and one big missing points... the most missing point is that this cam cant be remote controlled... which means you can take seriell shots powered by the PC...
so I missed out.... if this property would be included you would be able to use the cam over a grapper as a webcam... you can use it but it will autmaticly shut down automaticly the display after a maximum of 3 minutes(as I find out all the powershots and ixus does this)... and who want to stay up every 3 mins. and push the display alife...
the other minor disatvantages are the flash... it takes quit a bit to use it again (15...30 seconds) .
I dont want to complain only... the rest of the cam is excellent... doesnt matter if you use it in the cam mode out of a driving car or you take night shots or use the programs of the cam... all programms and the manual mode does their jobs very well... the cam has sharp image, natural colours and well develops are the result ... a nother minor minus is the service and the manual...
the first 3 times I tried to use the service in europe, I never got a answer on the spot and you have to pay for it.. the emails I have got was answer they copied it outa the manual... as I said no use at all... the manual is in some parts very confusing... for example : canon says they support shdc standard wich is normaly up to 32 GB...
a call on the service had the same, they told me that the limit is 4 GB(i guess they readed out the handbook)... I was insisting to talk to an technician he gave me the answer 32 GB like SDHC Standard.... I deceide to buy SCANDISK EXTREME II 4 GB on my own risk... it worked out fine from the first moment... I had no problem to write, delete or formate the SD-Card with CAM nor the PC...
the service and the handbook can be compensate by forums in the internet... lots of ppl with quite a bit of knowlege out in the world... I hope this will start the discussion, because I am very interested on other ppls experience... kind regards hdmue.
Whenever I use the camera indoor, i.e. using in a room (with tube light and with tubelight setting on / off), I get camera shake warning. Please tell how to handle this situation..
Anyone know where I can download drivers for Vista to upload directly from camera via USB port? Canon's website is fail....
How can I know the current power position of battery.
Our Trust, after much thought, brought a Canon A550. We found the amount of guff over the top and somewhat, downright, intimidating! .
We have two computers here, both run windows XP Media Center.
One; software working properly, the other loaded on, but: playing silly buggers, instead of working... properly. This is a mystery. We un-installed, reloaded on. 'Again/again. ' so far, still playing silly buggers.
Meanwhile; we are learning to use the camera, get familiar with how it works.... Then, it's down to serious work for it. So far, except for said nasty software hic-cup, the camera seems ok for what we got it for. I, myself will be happier, when we sort the software mystery!.
I really like this camera for an all around family cam. I don't even use all the features, I just haven't explored them. I do download to my dell computer and have some how managed to save all pictures to my background pictures for my desktop. Anyhow I can get rid of this as I think I have double of everything!!!.

Having taken video instead of pictures by mistake, is there any way to take a snapshot of the video and use it as a picture?.
Play it in your favorite video player, pause it and take a screenshot. Or some video players have their own shortcut buttons for saving snapshots of the screen, try Vlc (video lan) or MediaPlayerClassic..
Can snapshots be taken using the camera itself from the SD card where I still have the video's on?.
I borrowed my brother in laws canon a550 camera and now I want to get the pictures off the camera but he lost the software that came with it, so my question is where can I download the software so I can get my pictures?.
