I'm looking at the comparison of the Canon 5D Mark II vs Nikon D3x @ ISO 6,400 in your review, and I'm wondering why did the editors write that the Nikon outperforms the Canon. The Canon shows less noise, smoother, better defined lines, and definitely more detail. Look at the oil in the bottle - on the Nikon it's all one shade with no texture. And look at the label - the Nikon looks like an impressionist painting more than a faithful photograph..

I just read this review after doing searches for 5D MkII reviews. I have to say that I strongly disagree with the reviews findings on the Canon's AF performance. While I think the image quality is excellent, the AF performance on the 5D MkII is seriously flawed. I used the camera extensively three weeks ago at a motorsports event, and found that the camera had consistent and continuous problems autofocusing, particularly with repeated hunting for focus lock and the camera racking the lens fully one way and then the other trying to find focus. Hunting, hunting, hunting, and almost always getting lost. I'm a pro motorsports photographer with extensive experience shooting with L glass with the 1D-series, and I know what I am doing, and I found the AF performance of the MkII to be seriously lacking, and almost completely unuseable under even moderately low light.

A search on the net will find many, many pros, e.g. wedding photographers who are losing shots because of the poor AF performance of the 5D MkII..

I'd like to upgrade to a newer, used Canon which is compatible with all the lenses I have accumulated for my 10d. Any help? The new stuff makes my old reliable lenses obsolete..

What lenses do you have? Being a full-frame model, the 5D Mark II is not compatible with sub-frame EF-S lenses, but will work with all your EF lenses. Any sub-frame Canon DSLR (7D, 50D, T1i, XSi, XS) should work with all your 10D lenses. Older ones like the 40D and XTi will work, too..

Canon 5d mark 2 is a best one DLSR but design is ugly comparing with nikon, dreaming the next gen mark 2 design like d300s or d700, become the a wordwide champion...

Hi teddoy, .

Interesting! I agree that the 5D MkII is awesome, but I disagree with your taste. Nikon, like Canon, produces excelent camera's, but I much prefer the Canon design and would be very disappointed if Canon would ape Nikon and very much doubt they ever will. Vive la difference!.

In the "Cons" The statement .

"No IR sensor to dim LCD when you bring the camera to your eye" .

Doesn't make sense.

I own a 5D Mk II and if you are using Live View, the mirror locks up and you cannot look through the viewfinder. The only other situation I can think off is if you have the review setting to anything more than 2 seconds.

I have assumed that "bring the camera to your eye" means to use the viewfinder..

I have loaded up firmware 2.04 on my 5D Mk2 but seem to have lost control of aperture settings even in M when shooting movieswhats up??.

Has anyone heard when the new Canon 5d mk2 will be coming out?.

Live view is best used for landscape photography with a tripod. The auto focus modes are nearly useless. The charm of live view is manual focus at 5x or 10x. With live view you can see the focus with the lens stopped down. You can move the focus point over most of the image while checking depth of focus. This trumps any autofocus system known to man, as you are looking at the focus of the image on the sensor.

With this feature you can check exposure even while the light is changing. This feature has made a real difference in the IQ that I achieve in landscape photography..
