CANON 40d lens adapter for Minolta lenses?
Just saw this on ebay. Is it true that I could "adapt" my old Minolta lens to a Canon 40D if I bought this adapter? (That is, if I can make the decision to buy the 40D over a Nikon D200 or D300.) Item listed on ebay as: "Adapter for Minolta MD/MC Lens to Canon EOS 40D 1DS AC9." I have an old Minolta DYNAX 600si with a TAMRON 70-300/1.4-5.6 lens..

Also, anyone care to offer advice as to which camera I will like the best Nikon or Canon coming from an old Minolta days?Thanks!..

I don't think that adapter will work with your lens. That adapter is for the old manual focus lenses..

And I believe the camera you will like best is the one that is most comfortable in your hands and is the easiest for you to use..

Yeah it is hard. Really, I don't think either one will let you down. You can wait till you can handle them yourself, or wait for feedback from other users. Still, you can start to lean yourself one way or the other by handling some other Canon's/Nikon's. This way you can familiarize yourself with the general way Canon/Nikon camera's operate..

With a bunch of minolta lenses, you might want to look at the Sony line. Some of their new stuff isn't too bad, and your minolta mount will work unless they are pre 1984 (I think that's the date)...

I only have two Minolta lenses. I am getting a DSLR new setup in time for a quick DSLR course so have to buy now. Tossing up between D200 and Canon 40D. Unless as you mention there is SONY DSLR that I won't regret buying - and that's not too costly. Any ideas?..

The Sony's are supposed to be pretty good. They also make sensors for Nikon. The Sony's have in-body image stabliztion. Downside is they are currently the market leader. I would read the reviews on this site and go to a store and check one out..

Some people may snub you for not having Nikon or Canon (but then again some will for shooting with whatever they don't have)..

Hit the Sony forums and read what they have to say...

Dynax lenses are not that old. They work directly on Sony DSLRs. That is their native mount..

The adapter you saw is for MC/MD lenses, which predate Dynax lenses. The problem with this adapter for EOS is that it does not couple with the meter (meaning you have to stop-down meter) and it requires glass, i.e. it is a short, cheap teleconverter. Expect bad results wide open, or even stopped down..

If you had Mc/MD lenses (which you don't!), a better choice would be Olympus. The adapter does not need (or have) any glass in it:.

Probably Sony, since they inherited Minolta's camera division..

As for Canon vs. Nikon, go into a shop and try them for yourself. Nobody but you can know which is best for you..

Sure, there's the Sony A100. Not bad at all, and not nearly as costly as either of the cameras you mention. It's lower spec in some ways, higher in others. Generally, you get what you pay for..
