can casio p-600 be ressurected from dunk in a lake?
I purchased my 1st digital camera 1 year ago, a Casio EX-P600. Last week while in Canada a trip on the dock led to the camera falling into the water. I retreved it seconds later, took out the battery and card and laid out to dry. Inserted battery after 4 hours of drying. Nothing! Is there any hope for this camera? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you...

In a word, no..

When it hits the water with a battery in it there are almost invariably high currents between critical parts or in other words, it's fried..

Might want to check your homeowners policy, some cover these kinds of things..

Thank you for the not so good information. A second try at drying out with a hairdryer on low and just setting in the air to dry did not help. I thank you again for replying. I'm off to research and purchase another digital......

As you dropped it in a freshwater lake and not the sea (certain death) do not give up all hope just yet. If you have a dehumidifier, shut it in a small room to dry for a day and then see what happens. As the other person said, look to household contents insurance for a replacement..

Thanks for the suggestion...I will give the dehumidifier a try. I really liked my camera and the pictures it took. Will try again to revive it...

It maybe fixable, but the price to fix it maybe better spent on a new camera...

Look into the Olympus 770 SW. It's waterproof and won't mind the dunk at all...

Your homeowners insurance deductible (typically 1% of the insured value of your home) will probably be much greater than the cost of a new camera. Good luck drying it out or having it fixed cheaply. If that fails, embrace this as an excuse to upgrade to something better. I recently broke a pretty decent little camera that I was very fond of, a Fuji e550. I had no intention of replacing it any time soon, but when the repair estimate came back at about twice the value of the camera itself, I decided to splurge on a DSLR (Olympus E410, two-lens kit). I figured I might as well turn my disappointment into a great Fathers Day gift for myself!..

I did a similar thing 2 years ago and after not using it for a month or so I turned it on one day and it worked. The camera case is obviously not well ventialted and it can take a very long time for the insides to dry out. If you're really daring you can try opening the case - If all else fails and you're going to junk the camera anyway, give it a shot..

I'll second that; had the same thing happen with a 'phone that dropped in the local stream, was returned for repair, abandoned because of the cost (off the scale) and then found and was working months later..

It might be everything works but the battery. Try charging/replacing that (Not sure whether it is Li-ion. If so borrow a replacement)..

As another poster has said give it plenty of time. Open evey cover you can and leave it somewhere really dry.Chris Elliott.
