Best Image Stabilized P&S?
What is the best image stabilized P&S right now on the market?.

Megapixels really isn't that important to me...anything over 5 megapixels will do nicely. What I'd like to get is a camera that will be easy to use (it's for my mother who is going on a trip to the Grand Canyons). The camera will doubtlessly be used indoors as well, so a decent flash on the camera would be nice. Mom's about 60 years old and is technologically unsavvy. That being said, I did buy her a Kodak with Dock a few years back and she was able to shoot decent pics with that system. Now it is several years later and I figured that a newer and better digital point and shoot would be nice..

I figured that image stabilization would be nice as she'd avoid the image shake problems with P&S cameras..

Thus, my question is which the best bang for the buck?.

Thanks..

The best stabilization in any P&S is Panasonic.......perhaps look at the TZ3GeneFrom Western PA..

Panasonic FZ 20 and FZ30D50 and lenses..

Gene,.

Thanks. I will look into it..

Anything that I ought to know about the TZ3? quirks? anything 'bad' about it?.

As a point of reference, I just checked out the Canon A550 and A560 today at the Walmart. They seemed to be nice...and with a shutter lag of 0.1 sec, it makes capturing the moment much easier. Alas, neither of them had image stabilization..

Best image stabilization in a P&S or the best image stabilized P&S. I think the best general purpose P&S cameras of which there are a number of good one. My vote for the most bang for the buck is the Kodak Z612...

I just recommended to a friend of mine to get this camera. She wanted something small, good image stablization, good focal range. I had saw the TZ2 go on sale here for C$400 and it has only 6MP as compared to the TZ3 which I believe has 7.2 on the same size sensor. It also has a wide angle lens. The only downside that I saw is that if you use movie mode, you must zoom out to the focal length you want to shoot at before recording as it will not allow you to zoom in and out during recording. If that is important to you, then the TZ1 can be had at great price, has 5MP and same 10x optical zoom but no wide angle and it a little bigger than the TZ2..

I got to play with the TZ2 after she bought it and I like it, and almost tempted to buy it myself.KelvinNikon D80, 18-200mm VR, SB-600 FlashGalleries (Taken with a Sony H5):.

I just played with the TZ3 at Ritz camera. It's not a bad camera. Above 400iso, the thing is nearly useless...but for well lit areas, it's a nice camera..

Ben, unless you're going to get a Fuji, most P&S's are pretty bad above 400 and many are bad above 200 ISO. Fuji makes great P&S cameras if you're looking for usable high ISO's ( Not as good as a DSLR, but no P&S will come close to the high ISO low noise capability of a DSLR) but they don't have IS yet. I just purchased the TZ3 for my wife. The big selling factor for me is their excellent image stabilization system combined with the best zoom range on any compact camera. With a good IS system you can shoot at lower ISO's in many cases overcoming some of the ISO limitations of P&S cameras..
