Any advice on this combo?
I'm currently looking to jump into the DSLR world from a Fuji s9000. I'd like to have a body that is solid and a lens that I rarely have to change. Here is what I'm considering:.

Canon Rebel XTI bodyTamron 18-250mm zoom lens (digital only).

Both from BH for about $1200. Seems like a lot of bang for buck and the lens has some good reviews out there..

My alternative thought was:.

D80 body18-200mm VR lens.

But, that would cost me about another $400 at least..

Any advice about this choice would really be helpful. Thanks in advance for any input you might offer!.

Hello sinjinx,.

Here is a question I would like to ask you respectively, I would like you to ask yourself. Why do you want to move to a DSLR if you don't want to take advantage of the probably single most beneficial feature of a DSLR - access to a wide variety and selection of changable lenses?.

(Or, am I just understanding you wrong and you are looking for a versatile combo to get a started, and you will build up from there)..

Cheersbecksi.

You said it exactly! I'm just looking for something that would be very flexible to start and then expand to suit specific needs as they become necessary. Thanks for the response and any further input or suggestions would be appreciated..

If you're looking at the Tamron 18-250 consider linking it to a Pentax K100D or K10D. They have built in anti-shake which the lens will benefit from and are fine cameras. This will come close to the performance of the VR on the Nikon lens..

Apart from the VR factor on the Nikon, there is not much to optically separate the two. I think the Tamron is a better all-rounder (optically) but that's based on reviews..

You know, I hadn't even considered the Pentax, but after reading some great reviews, in-camera image stabilization, and the similar price tag, I think I might have a winning combo. Thanks a ton for the suggestion!.

What a load off! .

I'm really pretty flexible in this regard. I find I can adapt pretty easily if it means that I can get some good pics. I hope the camera I choose feels good, but it's not a big deal to me...*** I don't want the whole world, I just want your half ***..
