advice on a P&S
I want to get a good IQ camera that take shard picture, is better if it is small because I will use it for traveling. Any advice? I was looking at the canon powershot tx1, sd800is, sd850is, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2, and the Caplio GX100. which one take better photo? other than those, any other advice?.

I really need the IS or the OIS(which is better), my hand will shake a bit while holding a camera. Which all the ones I looking at have it. Please give as much information as possible..

THANKS..

I recently was looking for a small cam for landscape photography, i.e. starting with 28mm, and ended up with a Ricoh Caplio R6. You will find more in the Ricoh section of this forum.Have fun selecting your next cam...

Just so you will know, Nikon's anti-shake is called Vibration Reduction (VR)..

If your hand shakes you might want to consider the following:1. The smaller the camera, the more difficult it can be to hold it steady.2. The more zoom you apply to the lens the steadier you need to hold the camera..

I would suggest to buy a camera with Optical view-finder (for stable posture) and I.S. So Canon SD800IS is good choice with it's image-stablized wide-angle lens, OVF and compactness. IQ is also good at high ISOs..

This list of cameras has things that are so different. The TX1 isn't necessary unless you mostly are interested in video. Small and not easy to handle and the lens starts at 39mm which is not useful in a lot of situations..

The Caplio GX100 is by far the most expensive of the remaining and probably one of the most expensive point and shoot cameras on the market. It is very much the opposite of the TX1 and has one of the widest angle lenses on the market but then doesn't have that much zoom. Has very good easy to use manual controls. Has an optional viewfinder for use on the hotshoe. It has not been reviewed yet on this site..

The LX2 has good easy to use manual controls a very good lens but was not highly rated because the noise reduction isn't great. Using a low ISO this camera produced very good results. For low light shooting without a flash at high ISO not great but there are not many cameras that do this well (Fuji). There may be a new model announced in July..

The SD800 again goes wide angle but there is more distortion than on the LX2. It has an optical viewfinder. Not a good one but something to help you stabalize the camera if that truly is an issue..

How much are manual controls important? If not great for travel is the Panasonic TZ3..

I didn't know that smaller the camera, the more difficult the steadier you need to hold it steady. I learned a lot. thank you very much..

But I still like small porket-fit camera...

Yes, the sd800is the frist choice of all, I know that not every camera are not perfect. but it will be the perfect camera if sd800is have better video, which is just a dream. I kind looking beteewn the tx1 and sd800is. tx1(good video, 10X zoom, but a 39mm len and not good in low light) vs sd800is (28mm wide-angle len, better low-light shot than tx1, but without manual control, and the softness of the side,) which should buy??? it's a hard to pick. both video and low-light I wanted, which one should I let go? And how is the video on sd800?..

Yes at the 39mm len and bad low-light is wasn't that great. but it's great video make it's way to my list..

Yes, the it's prices of 700 is very high, but it's worse of pirce. but I don't think I want such a great camera. 24mm wide-angle len, cool!!~~.

So that you are saying the viewfinder aren't so great? why it is? and what make a good viewfinde? but, still sd800 is better than the LX2, right?.

Great camera, but too big for me and traveling. if it is smaller, this is what I am buying..

Thank you for you explaining...
